I've been canning veggies and fruits from our garden for more years than I care to admit - lol. Whenever possible, I use this low-sugar variety of pectin for jam as our family prefers the taste of less sugar. IMHO, jam tastes much better and has a much nicer fresh-fruit taste using this low-sugar pectin. Example: 4-1/2 cups prepared peaches takes only 3 cups sugar. I've never had a problem with jams not setting up properly using the canning hot-bath method when using this product. I've also used this product to make freezer jams with good results - the set is just a tad softer.

The instruction sheet is easy to read even for beginners, includes jam and jelly recipes for several fruits and berries and also has instructions for sugarless jam -- which I have never actually tried.

The problem I DO have is finding this pectin in the stores in our area when I need it as it never seems to be available except at the end of the summer, and what's on the shelves after that can be getting near the expiration date for the product. Apparently, this product is considered seasonal; however, store managers apparently don't realize that canning goes on all year long. As an example, today (March 22) I just finished doing three batches of peach jam using peaches we froze last summer. I had to hunt around for the pectin, and what I found was almost near the expiration date and obviously left over from last year. (I'm trying to use up the peaches we had to freeze in 2007 as our trees are already budding for this year's crop). The jam came out great and set properly even using frozen fruit.

I've been using this brand of pectin for years and have been very happy with it.

Flavor Name: CertoSize: 6 Ounce Boxes (Pack of 4)
The doctor in our newspaper has posted letters from people with arthritis who drink a mixture of a few spoonfuls of Certo mixed with unsweetened Grape juice, a few times a day. These people have had relief from arthritis.

After researching the folk remedy, and finding answers on [...], I tried it. After about a week, I was suffering a noticeable decrease of pain in an area of my back where there are severely degenerated discs.

The Certo+grape juice remedy did not help the neuropathy in my hands or the undiagnosed pain in my neck. However, I'm happy with the results, and I sent a Thank You letter to the doctor in the newspaper.

Certo is available in my supermarket above the puddings, but the 4-pack on Amazon.com is a much better buy, by about 35%. (Besides which, you get bonus points for using your Amazon Visa card if you buy it here.)

It is described as 2 count pack of 4. To me that means you should receive a total of 8 boxes. HOWEVER i only received 4 boxes. It makes the product $4.33 each when it retails at the grocery for 2.64! This is purposely misleading and tantamount to theft!!!!

The following was part of the description "Price: $15.46 ($1.10 / oz)". With this and the other ad description of 2 count pack of 4, I assumed there was a total of 8 boxes which would make the calculation of 1.10 per ounce close if not exact. I received 4 boxes or 7 ounces which calculates to $2.21 per ounce. I'm not sure but I believe someone's calculator is broken!!!!

I've been using this for years, and teaching others how to make jam with it also. Last year some of my new jammers accidently bought other brands of pectin. They were very unhappy with the difference in the end product.
The best aspect of this particular pectin is that you can use any amount of sugar that you want, or none. I've found that most jams are really not sweet enough if you go less than 3 cups of sugar per batch. It still beats the heck out of the 7 or 8 cups sugar that a standard pectin recipe calls for.
But if you're making jam for a diabetic, you can use a sugar substitute instead.
This is the most dependable pectin out there.
And for 2 years in a row, amazon.com has had the most economical price for it!

If you have any problems with your joints try 1-2 teaspoons of Certo mixed in a small glass of purple grape juice twice a day. I was having trouble exercising because of my knee but after using this for just 1 week my knee is almost back to normal and I can do some exercises that I couldn't do before.

I've been using this product for 40 years but recently the supermarkets have been having fun price gouging on this item. On a whim I checked Amazon and not only was it 40% cheaper but I could 'subscribe' to it as well!

There is no better pectin around! I've used Certo, Sure-Jell, even Pomona's (which is the messiest, least user-friendly product ever) and MCP is the only one worth my time! It makes no sense that it's always so unavailable. Walmart used to sell it here in Vegas, but even they have stopped carrying it. I either have to get my mom in California to buy me some or purchase it online--the price and the convenience of purchasing it on Amazon.com is far superior!
