The MRE tasted pretty good, not what I was expecting.

I just recieved and sampled my first mre. It was the beef patty with cornbread stuffing. It also included an oatmeal cookie. a piece of bread, grape jelly, instant coffee, juice powder, sugar, coffe creamer powder, salt, pepper, napkin, spoon, wet wipe, and a heater. preperation was pretty simple. just tear open the heater bag and insert the food pouch. then add a bit of water to the line and it will start cooking. the beef patty was actually not bad. Reminded me of soft beef jerky. The cornbread stuffing was more of a paste but i wouldnt turn it away if i was hungry. Remember to add a bit more water between warming food pouches. The oatmeal cookie was actually really good and the bread was kind of like a soft cracker. Very dense. overall it was not the best meal i have ever had but it was not bad at all. I will be ordering a case of these for my emergency supply. its not gourmet by any means but the food has a lot of flavor and was decently filling.

So I bought one of these to test it out to see if it was good enough to take camping.

I got it, prepared it and was satisfied with the amount of food in the package. I got pork sausage patty and it was good, not good as in something you'd get at a restaurant but good as in better than-high-school-food and better than cooking-burgers-in-the-mountains.

I finished almost everything except for the oatmeal cookie (pretty darn good by the way) and the peanut butter, because I was full by then.

The MRE has plenty of calories so this is not the stuff you want to be eating at home, but those calories are more than welcome when I go camping.

The only thing I disliked is that the pork sausage patty was too small for my liking, it was about 1 and a 1/2 inches wide by about 3 inches tall by about 1/4 inch thick. Pretty small if you ask me. It tasted good by the way.

Also the whole package is pretty big so they will take up a lot of space when I put them in my backpack.

Overall I highly recommend them for camping and hiking, easy to make, the food tastes above average with the only downsize being that the main entree was a bit too small and they take up a lot of space.

I'm definitely buying more to take them next time I go camping.

I purchased 3 cases (different manufactures) of MREs this company being one of them. My family and some friends all sat down one evening and prepared 6 meals from each case. We all sampled each of the 18 meals and rated them on a scale from 1-5 stars. This manufacture received the second highest rating at 3.5 stars. Heaters worked great and there is enough heat to prepare two meals allowing us to save one heater for later. This was the second most expensive manufacture of the 3. Now for the Bad. The manufacture date on the box is Feb of 2010 which is almost three years ago. This will realy cut down on the shelf life for anyone looking for long term storage. If long term storage is not what you are looking for than this is a good value for a product that tastes just fine.

I cannot attest for flavor or anything like that, but when I received my order (ordered two individual meals) one of my entrees were opened, then taped shut again. I am not sure if the product was removed from the box and replaced or what happened, but the box was clearly opened before then taped shut again. Not acceptable for something that might be used in emergency situation. Just be leary when you order!

You don't get a choice of flavors but you do get a whole unopened MRE, which itself contains a variety of items. If you wonder whether MREs are a useful choice but you don't yet want to buy a $150 brick of them, this is the way to go. This seller shipped it nicely packaged and in great condition. Go for it, you'll be happy with your purchase.

I just wanted to try this out to compare it as an option for long term food storage. I liked the meal, it tasted good. I did not like the price however. No wonder our military is so damn expensive. I did not buy any more of these due to price restrictions. I think money is much better spent on Mtn House products. I know Mtn House is not ready to eat, but it only requires water. If you dont have water you have bigger problems to deal with than food anyhow. If you do have water, than Mtn House tastes better and is cheaper. If you want variety buy different flavor meals. The MRE probably burns about 2000 calories to open and leaves you with a huge pile of garbage to deal with. The coffee was ok.

I ordered a single mre for testing. I got the pork ribs MRE. Besides the pork ribs, there was a packet of spiced apples, a package of vegetable crackers, strawberry jam, a cinnamon scone, tropical punch powder and the condiment packet, which contained salt, coffee powder, sugar, creamer, a wet nap spoon and napkin. I opened it up after an hour and a half dive for some fish and I was hungry. The pork ribs were pretty tasty, accompanied by the crackers and jam. I followed it up with the spiced apples (sorta like Apple pie filling). I was full by this time, so I set aside the cinnamon scone, creamer heater and napkin. If I was camping, I could have had the scone later, with the coffee. There was no toilet paper or Tabasco (like in military mres), but it's no biggie. After cleaning my hands with the wet nap, I was sated and ready for another spear fishing session. I plan on buying more. It is what it is...an mre...good stuff if you have no food in your ice chest. Oh yeah..I have a sensitive stomach, but this food didn't cause any discomfort afterwards-a plus factor in my book.
Update: 6-27-13. I looked at the remainder of the pack again. The condiment pack had salt, pepper and two packets of sugar, as well as powdered coffee and creamer and the food heater. I ate the scone with some vanilla ice cream at home. It was tasty. The tropical fruit punch was doable, but basically so. I still plan on buying more, as the amount of food is filling, with no gastronomical problems after.
Update: 8-20-13. I ordered two more of these meals.
