Product Description

P2X-B Surefire P2X Fury The P2X Fury uses a high-efficiency, virtually failure-proof LED to deliver your choice of either 15 or 500 lumens of perfectly focused light, the latter qualifying the Fury as a pocket-sized searchlight. The 15-lumen level is excellent for general work at close-to-medium distances, and also lets you greatly extend the runtime per set of batteries, a valuable option when you're miles from civilization. At either setting the high-strength polymer micro-textured reflector delivers a smooth, comparatively wide beam with a brighter central area and generous peripheral light. The Fury is activated with a click-type tailcap switch: press for momentary-on low, press further to click constant-on low; return to off and press or click on again within two seconds for high. The high-strength aerospace aluminum body is smoothly sculpted for a comfortable, secure grip and is hard anodized to military specifications for extreme resistance to scratches, abrasion, and corrosion.

As a security officer who has been the very satisfied owner of a Surefire 6PLED Defender flashlight for the last five years, I was intrigued by the new P2X Fury.
I love my Defender, but excellent as it is, it's still a single output flashlight rated at 80 lumens.
As the duties of my job have expanded over the last few years, I often have occasion to use a flashlight with much lower intensity than the Defender's 80 lumens, to be less disturbing to other people, to not spoil night vision as much, and because it will have much longer run time.
However, much higher intensity available instantly is still essential, which the P2X Fury also has.

Here are a few comparisons between the Defender and the Fury.
The Defender has a tactical runtime (how long before light output falls below 50 lumens) of 2 hours, while the Fury is rated for 1.5 hours on its high setting.
However, the Fury also has the lower intensity setting of 15 lumens, which is rated for a runtime of an impressive 46 hours.
For those wondering about the accuracy of these numbers, my experience is that Surefire's listed tactical runtime entirely realistic with my well worn Defender for comparison.
Another motivation for getting the Fury was its significantly greater intensity on the high output setting, a whopping 500 lumens.
That high output setting is perfect for the proverbial turning night into day, and especially useful to disorient a threat, either of the four-legged or two-legged variety.

The basic features:
The flashlight has what is described as a "lockout" tail cap, which means the tailcap at the switch end of the light can be rotated a half turn counterclockwise to make it so that the light can't be accidentally turned on when the switch itself is pressed.

I love the idea of a dual output flashlight! You don't really need to use the full brightness of the flashlight when you're walking in the dark, you just need enough light to see where you're walking so you don't twist your ankle. Also, having a dim setting really helps your night vision. If you need to see something in the distance, you can light it up as clear as day.
I tested this flashlight out on a 2 hour walk on some old railroad tracks through the forest. The trees block a lot of the ambient light from the moon and the stars, so it's pretty dark. Most of the time I used the dim 15 lumen setting to see where I was going. Once in awhile, I would see some eyes on the trail up ahead of me. I was glad that I could click the switch and light up the animals with 500 lumens. I saw two whitetail deer in one hour. I think the low output setting keeps them from getting too spooked.
As far as quality goes, I'm very happy with the fits and limits of the Surefire P2X Fury. There are no burrs on the metal, and the finish is consistent. There is only one odd circular shape left where the brand name is engraved made by the tool that machined the groove, but it's not a serious flaw. It feels very solid, but not too heavy. Much lighter than carrying around a 2 or 3 D cell flashlight.
I would definitely recommend this flashlight to any serious outdoors enthusiast, it's probably a bit more than what's needed for the average camper. Also, it would obviously be a great choice as a tactical home or car defensive flashlight.

Greetings,

I paid $123.78 for this on November 1st, 2012. I looked around for this type of flash light for a while. At work we get issued stinger rechargeable that I carry on my duty rig, but I wanted another pocket torch. Something small, light, and yet very powerful. I was looking at the ASP 35625 Triad LED Flashlight, but I went with the greater power output of the surefire. The ASP does recharge but I happen to get the batteries for free, so for me it was easier to go with. This flashlight is very rugged and worth the value!

(I'm currently working on about 500 reviews, I order pretty much everything from Amazon but I (until now) never review. So I'm going through the years of orders to catch up, and try and give back to the system. If your reading this PLEASE hit the button saying this review was helpful, it does help out the people that make reviews, and trust me it takes a lot of time... I try not to make long winded reviews, all of the specs are in the product description)

I have several Surefire lights, and like the others, this one does not disappoint. Incredibly bright and fairly tight beam on the High setting, with enough spill to see surrounding areas. On Low, it gives enough light to navigate easily, and has awesome run time. It's basically like the G2X, but with a turbo button! The dual modes and wide range of intensity make this is a very versatile light, while still remaining simple and durable.

If you use this light much, go get an AW 17670 rechargeable or two - it fits perfectly. That's my daily use battery. No decrease in light output. It gives about half the run time - which is still ridiculously long - but costs next to nothing to use. CR123's are good for emergency use with their 10 year shelf life. If I could only have one light, I would probably pick this one.
