5.0 out of 5 stars Good Choice
This well-designed glue gun is a good choice for occasional use. It's lightweight (0.5 lbs), well-balanced, and a comfortable size: 7 inches long with a housing that tapers to less than an inch wide at the front. It has a full-size trigger that requires little effort and feeds continuously, not in steps, for better control.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice glue gun, but...
Despite it's claim that it has a no-drip tip; I'm here to tell you that this sucker drips. As long as a glue stick is in the chamber and the unit is on, it will drip and continue to do so until turned off and allowed to cool. Other than the aforementioned, I like it's duel temp feature and low price. Does not come with any glue sticks :(

It has a plastic fold-down kickstand which is stable but unlikely to keep it upright if bumped, plus a separate plastic stand with a non-stick silicone drip pad. Its only control is a high-low temperature switch. No power switch, automatic cutoff, or thermostat. To turn it off, you unplug it. A light above the temp switch glows when it's powered.

Hot parts are well covered -- only 1/4" of the metal tip is exposed. Made in China; UL listed. Heats to maximum temperature in 5 minutes. Non-drip tip means glue doesn't stream out when it's idle; it does drip slightly, which is harmless especially if you use the separate stand.

A 4" glue stick goes almost all the way into the barrel. When first loaded, just a fraction of an inch is visible in the opening above the handle. The mechanism that pushes the stick forward rests behind that opening. So you need a second stick to push against the first to begin dispensing glue, then add another stick whenever the last one almost disappears into the barrel.

If you plan to frequently switch between glue types, it would be easier and more economical to use a separate gun for each type. Glue sticks shouldn't be remove once started. To change glue type, you squeeze the leftover glue out the tip, using the new stick to push it through.

The bond it creates is a bit like sticking things together with melted candle wax -- just harder and with a higher melting point. Good on porous materials that will partially absorb the glue. It will firmly attach non-porous surfaces as well, but with some effort you can pull them apart and pull off the glue, leaving no residue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well for gluing foam, August 4, 2010

I purchased this model for working with foam model airplanes. The low temperature setting works well and the glue does not melt the foam.

The stand works well, but is light and will tip if you bump it with any force.

It does drip, but not very much... I left it sitting for about 3 hours and there were about 10-12 drops of glue under the tip.

The controls are simple... hi/low temp, turn it on by plugging it in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Glue Gun, March 3, 2010

This is a great glue gun - much nicer to work with than the small mini-glue guns. The glue is more expensive but there is no waste like the minis. I use it for craft items and happy with the glue gun.

This glue gun works very well. I am always finding something that needs to be glued. I glued a piece of a glass to a piece of wood and could not pull them apart. The uses are endless. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Crafting Glue Gun - Recommended, July 3, 2011

This review is from: Surebonder DT-280 Dual Temperature Full Size Glue Gun (Tools & Home Improvement)
Length:: 0:17 Mins

This Surebonder "Dual Temperature Full Sized Glue Gun" is a good replacement for an older (different manufacturer) model we had in our shop. Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Takes Full Sized Glue Sticks; useful since we use our glue gun for production in my wife's small business
+ High\Low Setting; useful for bonding a wide range of materials with different temperature rated glue sticks
+ Full Sized; fits my big hand well and large trigger gives good control
+ Stable Base; prevents tip overs
+ Includes Stand With Drip Plate; useful when used on "High" setting to catch glue blobs
+ Built-In Stand; also has built-in flip down stand

Cons -
- Will tend to drip on "High" setting, but not much of an issue on the "Low" stetting or when using the included stand

Overall, I am very pleased with the features and value of this glue gun.

Recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars cannot get it to work, June 22, 2011
This review is from: Surebonder DT-280 Dual Temperature Full Size Glue Gun (Tools & Home Improvement)
I received this item as a gift and exchanged the first one because I could not seem to get it to make the glue come out. I put in several sticks of glue but nothing came out. I figured perhaps it was a fluke. Now I finally got around to trying the second one I received and the same thing. The glue will not come out. I cannot imagine I am supposed to put in 10 glue sticks to get this to work. Unfortunately its too late to return it yet again. I should have just returned it in the first place but noone seemed to be having this issue so I figured it was a fluke. Guess not. Dont buy.

I ordered this glue gun as a Christmas Gift for my sister-in-law on Dec. 2nd and as of Jan. 2nd it is still not shipped ad has not shipping estimated date!!! This is a horrible way to do business; and if it is not shipped within the next week I will be cancelling. If you are selling items under the super saver shipping and it guarantees you will get it by Christmas then it SHOULD BE THERE BY CHRISTMAS!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad choice for me, October 24, 2011

This review is from: Surebonder DT-280 Dual Temperature Full Size Glue Gun (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've owned this glue gun for about a year now. I'm an occasional user, using it on simple craft projects around the house. I really don't understand the positive reviews for this glue gun. I've finally given up on it, and I'm shopping for a new glue gun (one that's more expensive this time!). The problem is with the design that allows hot glue to "gush" out of the seams between the two halves of the plastic casing, and out of the area above the trigger. By using a very strong but small spring clamp around the nozzle, and only using it on the low heat setting, I got the "gush" down to a dribble, but still there is glue coming out of this gun in places other than the nozzle. Don't get me wrong--glue also comes out of the nozzle, at the right temp, and in the right volume--there's nothing wrong with the internal controls, heating element, or the glue stick feeding mechanism operated by the trigger. But it's pretty hard to use with hot glue gushing out all over your work surface, your hand, your project and whatnot. Ya think?
