4.0 out of 5 stars Bright light from a small, well made flashlight, January 24, 2009
This light is extremely bright and very small and easy to carry. The quality of Surefire lights is second to none.

However, this light only has 1 hour of runtime from a set of CR123A lithium primary batteries. Fortunately, there are a few things that can be done to reduce the cost of your lumens:

1) Purchase 2 17500 lithium rechargeable batteries and a charger for them.
2) Purchase a Malkoff M60L LED dropin. This alone will increase your runtime from 1 hour to about 6.5 hours without sacrificing lumens!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now *that's* a flashlight!, August 21, 2009
This review is from: Surefire 9P Original Flashlight 9P-BK New Model NIP (Misc.)
If you're looking for an over-the-top flashlight, this is the one to have. It's truly amazing in every dimension.

The construction quality is way beyond "rugged". I quite literally drove over it after accidentally leaving it on the garage floor. Not even a scratch - my concrete floor fared worse. I've also used it underwater a few times with no ill effects. The O-ring seals prevented even a drop from seeping in. In a pinch, I wouldn't hesitate to use it as a personal defense weapon, it's that rugged. At the same time, I find it well balanced and not unduly heavy.

As for the light, as others have said, it's amazingly bright for such a small unit. I have one of the large Mag-Lite (6 D-cells), and I have to say that this one is brighter, although it's a narrower, more focused beam.

Only two minor complaints.

First, the CR123 batteries are fairly expensive and they don't really last all that long. Maybe an hour of solid "on" time altogether.

My other complaint is that when you leave the light on for a long stretch of time, the body of the flashlight tends to get rather hot to the touch. Not so hot that you can't hold it, but warmer than I expected.

Anyway, these two gripes aside, this is about the perfect ultra-bright flashlight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and rugged., January 28, 2007

Gives off a nice bright light, extremely rugged. A bit on the heavy side. Excellent for the outdoors!

The downside is having to purchase 3 batteries - most batteries are sold in two packs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool piece of kit, May 9, 2008
Stunning flash light that delivers outstanding clear beam. Relative to its size it is an amazing light, I keep mine in my car. I have used it many times to help other motorists in difficulties who dont have a flash light and they never cease to be amazed by its brightness. Awesome essential item, no one should be without.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flashlight?, October 5, 2010
This review is from: Surefire 9P Original Flashlight 9P-BK New Model NIP (Misc.)
What seems to be missing from these reviews is that this is a very effective, purposely designed weapon. The beam is blinding and disorienting, and it's build will add power and pain to your punch, poke or swing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Little Engineering Marvel, January 19, 2009
I received this flashlight as a gift from my company. Not knowing the heritage of these lights beforehand, I was stunned by the brightness--literally. These things are seriously crazy intense for their size. Don't look into them, and don't touch the lense. They're so bright that I unintentionally looked into mine only slightly and had a spot in my field of vision for long enough that it scared me. These are so powerful that even the light cast on your hand from a few inches away feels warm.

The overall build is rock solid, and it feels like a high-quality machined metal product. If I had any complaints, it would just be that this thing is almost too dangerous to use regularly, especially around children, and the batteries are rated for a relatively short period of time (about an hour). Plus, those batteries are proprietary, not your regular old AAs or something.

All in all, this is a slick piece of gear for the right use.
