Fun to watch,

I always enjoy a fishing trip to the beach. There were good demonstrations and tips in such a short video. At a length of only 42 minutes the experience is over too soon. However, it is a good 42 minutes. The video opens with tips on observing the beach conditions; are there birds diving, how are the waves breaking, and are there baitfish in the breakers? "TJ" is the fisherman in the "Joe and TJ" team. There is a brief survey of type of equipment (rods, reels, line weight). There is a good, easy to follow demonstration of putting together a surf rig. A very brief demonstration of cast netting for finger mullet and demonstration of a single way of hooking up the mullet. There was no discussion of other types of excellent surf baits nor how to acquire them yourself nor how to properly hook them. I enjoyed this video but it left me wanting more.

"Surf Fishing With T.J. & Joe" is definitely geared more towards the novice surf-fisherman. Basics such as reading surf, cast netting and rigging simple tackle are covered briefly yet adequately. A little more in depth description of alternate tackle and techniques would be welcome, but the methods covered will definitely help you catch several species of fish from the surf. This video will get you started on your way and looking for more! The video continues to follow TJ and Joe to the beach, where several varieties of common surf fish are caught and released. A few small, and a few nice-sized fish to whet your appetite as to what you might luck into at the beach. Overall, it's a nice teaser to entering the world of surf fishing. I'd recommend this video to someone just learning how to surf fish, or as a "refresher" to the person who goes surf fishing once or twice a year while on vacation. For someone a little more versed in surf fishing, it may seem lacking, but remember, everyone has to start somewhere.

Covered the basics,

For me as someone who grew up fishing I found this book to be designed more towards the novice fisherman. It covered all the basics from rigging, casting, gear, etc... but didn't go much into finding places to fish on the beach. That's why I bought the video to learn more about where to fish, reading the waves and signs of depth, learning where is the best place to cast. But the video only went into this very quickly and didn't really offer me much.
