5.0 out of 5 stars Don't You Know About The Bird??, May 19, 2007
This review is from: Surfin Bird (Audio CD)
The Trashmen will never be able to let down the song Surfin' Bird(and most folks know the song but don't know the group that sings it), and will be forever associated with that song, but the rest of their work shouldn't be ignored. Thanks to the good folks at Sundazed and curious old school surf rock fans like myself, they won't be totally forgotten. Surfin' Bird is a great piece of early 60s rock. The Trashmen are lumped into the surf rock category, which they do belong in, but alot of these songs are vocal tunes. Only a very few instrumental surf songs to be found here, but don't let that discourage you. The vocal tunes take a little warming up to, but you'll find your happyass singing along with them in no time. Great stuff from a great time in rock and roll history when lyrics were just about good clean wholesome fun. And if you dig this stuff, these guys got a big ol' boxset available. Dig!

Always loved the title song. The Trashmen really did some good stuff "Back in the Day". Surfin' Bird is still rockin' good fun, especially if you've had a few, if you know what I mean.

Whenever you're in a bad mood, just play this record, esp the surfin bird song, and all you're problems will disappear. Also, if you haven't heard, its fun to make bird puns before you play this record. Like if you're friends ask you what you're about to play, you'll know what to say. hahaha. Love this record!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trashmen - 'Surfin' Bird' (Sundazed), November 5, 2007
This review is from: Surfin' Bird [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
Originally released in 1964, looks to be the surf rock band's very first album. I've heard of the Trashmen plenty of times over the last umteen years but this was the first CD of theirs I got to check out for myself. They've obviously influenced bands like the Cramps, Kingsmen and the Stray Cats. Tunes here that are sure to make you sit up and take notice are the title track "Surfin' Bird", "Henriette", Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy", the rocking "Kuk" and "Sleeper" (superb guitar licks). Line-up: Dan Winslow-guitar & vocals, Tony Anderson-guitar, Bob Reed-bass and Steve Wahrer-drums. Should appeal to fans of The Sonics, Standells, Tornadoes and Count Five. Essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great forgotten bands, January 19, 2000

I've listened to this music before it was recorded.I've seen the musicians look of pride on their faces each time they played.Alot of thought and feeling went in to each and every song written and played. The music was wholesome then, when bands were'nt a dime a dozen and you climbed to the top and worked hard for that space Aside from afew songs, the music is their own which gives it a deep personal touch. The future of music needs to get back to basics since music has a powerful effect on our lives and our childrens lives.,no bad subject matter, language,or any suggestion of violence. As i listen to this album today as I did in the 60's,I still feel that good all over feeling thatcan't keep me off the dance floor, so very lucky to have been part of it all.
