Product Description

Liv & Let Liv: Surfin' Pachelbel! This contemporary instrumental album mixes new age, jazz, pop, rock, surf, ambient, techno, chant and classical into a fresh, new blend. This album's three variations on the Johann Pachelbel "Canon in D" theme -- the opening title track which builds over a 14-minute span from meditative space to a frenzy of ecstasy, the catchy five minute "Poppin'Pachelbel" in the middle of the album, and the 14-minute "Waikiki Pachelbel" near the end with its chanting choir and orchestral swells. Surfin Pachelbel also contains the short, cool down, chill-out interlude "Run As A Liquid;" the nine-minute space groove "He'enalu;" the quick "Wili Wili" ("A surf guitar tribute to Peter Gabriel and his grooves," says Liv Khalsa); the 12-minute slow, ambient, dance piece "Groove Salad;" and the humorous beatnik/sci-fi techno saga "Surfin' UFO" (featuring, as special guests, the group 'Overlords Of The UFO'). TRACKS: 1. Surfin' Pachelbel;; 2. Run as a Liquid; 3. He'enalu; 4. Poppin' Pachelbel; 5. Wili Wili; 6. Groove Salad; & 7. Waikiki Pachelbel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surfing with Pachelbel, January 13, 2003
This review is from: Surfin Pachelbel (Audio CD)
This strange little cd has many different kinds of music on it - there's a full orchestral verion with, of course Pachelbel's "Canon" providing the motif throught out the whole cd. There's ambient trance-dance to Pachelbel's "Canon". The "Waikiki Pachelbel" is worth the price of admission alone.

You don't even have to like surf music to enjoy this cd - it's doesn't sound anything like surf music you've ever heard. Get this cd and hang ten with Pachelbel!

2.0 out of 5 stars Try surfing Palestrina, November 5, 2003
By DJ Rix (NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Surfin Pachelbel (Audio CD)
Only on the Willi Willi - Groove Salad sequence does Liv Khalsa's "Liv & Let Liv" group deliver as futuristic surf music from the Moons of Jupiter, & that largely through the subtle, persistant fretless bass of Ken Simmons. The problems are two: First, Groove Salad ought to provide the penultimate high rather than than the peak. Second, Pachelbel's Canon is weak thematic material when mined for its chord changes rather than the canonic structure that creates the pretty harmonies. Add some Steve Roach, Steve Reich, Dick Dale, King Bennie Nawahi, Ennio Morricone & you might get a great mix. But I really expected more from the concept. Try surfing Palestrina. Or Handel's Water Music.
