A Great CD...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Surfing (Audio CD)
A great CD, being a slight 'expansion' of the original LP, it has a lot of the Ventures music associated with their surf sound although, as pointed out by another reviewer, the Ventures were never really a 'surf' band. They started out before the gendre came into vogue and extended into surf music during its popularity and, in true Ventures' style, became masters of the sound. The fact that many cover songs they did (Pipeline, Telstar, Out Of Limits, etc.) became definitive versions over the originals is vivid proof of their amazing musical abilities. Anything another band could do, they could do better! My ONLY complaint (and a minor one) with this CD is the fact that some of the tracks were sourced from a vinyl LP (this is especially noticable on 'Let's Go' and 'Diamonds') and no mention is made of this anywhere on the CD or in the booklet notes. Not that it would have stopped me from buying the CD, but I would have preferred some mention of this fact in the packaging. So many CD's of older music are being released these days with critical consumer information being left off such as whether the songs are the original recordings (or 're-recorded' by the original artists or groups pretending to be the original artists), or whether the songs are stereo or mono, etc.. I think a little truth in packaging should be in order so you know exactly what you're getting. Aside from that, I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone hooked on the Ventures sound as, in my opinion, their 'Surfing' album was one of their best and this expanded edition contains the entire LP in great sounding stereo with a few more rare 'gems' thrown in for good measure. A worthwhile purchase for any Ventures fan!

This is a great sampling of the Ventures for those who have not ventured into the world of this combo. This CD has some of their best songs-Walk Don't Run & Walk Don't Run '64, Perfidia, and Hawaii 5-0. This CD is great for anyone who wants some feel-good and relaxing music that is great background sound for parties. For those new to the Ventures, they are an instrumental combo, primarily entertainers. They do covers of songs, but they reverse engineer and reinvent the songs, so what we hear is something different and more intensified. They are severely underrated, but since we want them for ourselves, lets keep them a secret!

Wonderful CD,clear true STEREO sound,containing four(4)superb diamonds: "Pipeline"-"Diamonds"-"The Ninth Wave"-"Caravan".
I don't agree with PeterfromK,this is the best performance of Diamonds. Jet Harris is very good with his bass sound but from a guitar technique p.o.v.(all guitar),The Ventures version belongs to Proxima Centauri. The sound of this CD is fantastic (the french did a wonderful French-job)and plays much better than a lot of CD's made over 10 years later...the one of Jet Harris unfortunately (french should have a look at it) plays in very minor league. Only one very small remark on the mixing: in Pieline the lead guitar is a bit too much on the right channel only (you reveal it more by headphone) but Wonderful Sound anyway! If you feel down and need energy put this CD in your CDP and give it a bit of gas. I suggest also The Ventures "Let's Go!" 2004 ORR,same wonderful sound, same French sound engineering. Ciao, Franco

These selections are some of the best guitar music ever played. Loud at parties for dancing, or low background for serious smooching, this album is tops.

The Ventures have long been one of my favorite groups. I still have all my worn-out Ventures vinyl's! The compilation of songs on their Surfing CD did include some of their best, and many of their also-on-the-album, nothing special tunes. One song that I especially like, Changing Tides, was on the Surfing album, and I bought the CD specifically to get that track. This, alone, made the disc to be worth the cost.

This CD features most of the Ventures best songs, but it is lacking songs they made famous such as Apache, Telstar, Tequila, etc. I would like to have seen these included as well; however, they may not have fit the Surfing theme intended. In any case, the premier instrumental band of the 60's and well worth a listen!

Why don't they just remaster the original album? They added tracks and doubled the price. Scratching my head....

TERRIFIC EXAMPLE OF VENTURES ABILITIES DURING SURF CRAZE!!,

This review is from: Surfing (Audio CD)
The Ventures were NEVER a "SURF BAND" as their style demonstrated through the years, however this particular album shows the ability of the band to adapt itself to what ever music craze that came along... and adapt they did!!! This is a terrific album with a definite "SURF THEME" and the Ventures went "all out" in their effort to get the "Surf Theme" job done!!!! This album is highly recommended for your Ventures music collection!!!
