I have a 10 month old daughter whose favorite show right now is the bubble guppies. The only problem with that show is that its still new and that they only have a few episodes (2 seasons worth). I tried getting her to watch new shows and I couldnt find anything that could get her attention, everything was either too cartoonish or not educational at all. But then I remembered when my nephews and neices were babies that they loved watching the Backyardigans, so I tried putting it on for her thinking that she wasnt going to like it. Boy was I wrong about that one. The characters were so unique and the songs were so well sung. She was instantly hooked. These child acters are so experienced beyond their ages and that their talents are above that of some older TWEEN shows. I highly recommend this show for children of all ages (and for those closeted adults who still enjoy watching cartoons).

Great music in this series that bolsters imagination and creativity. The show also addresses issues of playing together fairly, finding ways to include what each friend wants to do, exploring new environments, and dancing (yes, i say dancing because these little creatures do some actual dance moves not just waving their arms around). I also like that its one of the only kids' shows on nickelodeon or disney that has less, let's say, midwestern names. Here we have Tyrone, Uniqua, Tasha, Austin and Pablo. Another show that's friendly on the ears.

Not the greatest cartoons we've ever watched, but I can't complain. My Littles enjoy that there are no "scary guys" (in most episodes - we skip the ones with scary guys) & the music and characters are really up-beat... so even the toddler who is too small to have any idea of the plot still enjoys the peppy music and smiling characters. There is an ongoing discussing among the kids as to what type of animal Austin is, though... leading guesses are "dog" or "kangaroo." Overall, innocent fun for a rainy day.

Backyardigans is a very innocent show for young children. It lacks the subtle double entendre of some cartoons but it's good to have a resource that is just nice. It is more than suitable for my littler guys and I never feel a need to monitor their viewing or censor any of it. But the best part is the music. I've never really thought of children's fare in terms of the music before but this shows what can be done in the right hands. Perhaps it isn't for everyone, but my kids really enjoy singing along. Bang up job, guys!

I fell in love with this show from the first episode I bumped into at a friends house. The mix of characters, personalities, stories, lessons and music makes it so fun to watch for everyone. I love the way the stories begin and end showing kids the magic and wonders their imaginations can bring. All my friends and family with children love love love this show. My oldest is now 8 and he loved introducing his little sister to the show. He doesn't even groan when she wants him to sit and watch with her sometimes.

I would watch the Backyardigans just for fun....all by my adult self. It is just fun. The characters are nice to each other, have fun together, no back biting or sneakiness. Their adventures remind me of how we used to play in the old days...out in the yard to invent our own fun. The lyrics to the songs are clever and lively. Oh, and by the way, my grand daughter loves them too...and she is only 16 months old but loves music, and the cuteness of the characters. They are happy but not sappy .

This is a well designed show for children to observe everyday skills of life; such as Sharing, Kindness, and respect for others. I watch the program with my grandchildren and have been for years, Retired from the military we make the Backyardigans Adventure Trips one that PopPop (that's me) took when I was away with the Army..

The colors are beautiful and the pace of the show and its cantor all add to the attraction that forms the Yardigands' following.
Thank you,

NOTE: We've only watched season 1, and love it. Some episodes are better than others of course, but this household loves Backyardigans. Cute stories acted out in the character's imaginations interspersed with songs set to differing genres of music, and not as inane as some other kids fare. In particular we like Tower of Power (salsa), Yeti (Funk), Pirates(Reggae) and Race Around the World (zydeco?). We've been watching since she was 3. And still turn to them now that she's turning 5. Recommended.
