5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful tale, April 22, 2008
Irreconcilable differences. Harriet Remy is ready to end her marriage to surgeon Guillaume "Gill" Remy citing irreconcilable differences. Essentially, Harriet wants a baby, to be a mother, while Gill doesn't. Both have worked as part of an emergency medical team and Gill still loves the thrill as he thrives on saving lives in the midst of chaos. The divorce papers are drawn but will the last 24 hours of this relief effort save or forever destroy their love?

Wow, this was a powerful tale! The structure of using a clock counting down added a real sense of urgency to the story as it was all I could do not to sneak a peek ahead to see what would happen. Don't mistake the brevity of this tale as cheating the reader of any intensity as THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE BRIDE is a very deep and moving tale that is only magnified by its length.

Amy Andrews writes an emotionally powerful, gutwrenching story that really hits at the heart of love, both the love between partners and the love parents have for their children. Gill and Harriet are going to have a tough 24 hours as everything they know about themselves and each other will be tested. Be prepared, as THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE BRIDE is a tearjerker.

The background of the war provides a real sense of just how dangerous but oh so valuable these types of medical personnel really are. They risk their lives daily for people who would- and sometimes do- kill them without a thought. Amy Andrews shows the heroic side of this profession in a beautiful and touching way. THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE BRIDE is highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Medical romance: a wonderful mixture of passion and suspenseful drama, December 5, 2007
The sexual energy between the Nurse Harriet Remy (known as "Harry") and her husband Guillaume is electric but it is just not enough. Harry returns after a separation from her husband Guillaume, head guy for a MedSurg team that flies into hot spots and war-torn countries to provide health services for WHO (World Health Organization). Children have never been part of their plan --- the thrill of their humanitarian work was the priority. Harriet, called "Harry", has changed the game plan. When she discovers her fertility is in question, the desire for a baby becomes more important than anything. Guillaume loves her but he can't pretend --- he doesn't want a baby. Harriet returns with divorce papers to her last mission for MedSurg, but with all this sexual tension in the air, will it become a mission to save their marriage? Neither of them intends to compromise! What can happen when life suddenly changes an individual's goals in a marriage?

THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE-BRIDE begins with explosive physical, sexual tension but soon the romance adds both a suspenseful and tender element as well. Each chapter ticks down the hours and creates a fast-paced read. The medical setting reminds the reader of M.A.S.H. in terms of the medical drama but without the army bureaucracy or the sometimes sexist humor that M.A.S.H. had. I found myself emotionally moved by the tender and sad moments. THE SURGEON'S MEANT-TO-BE-BRIDE touches on the issues of love and family and generations through objects and the fertility theme. The happily-ever-after of this romance is very intriguing and a particular reading delight. The ending is brilliant --- not an easy simplistic ending, but one that the characters have to fight for and one that is true to the hero and heroine --- and one that moves the reader. Amy Andrews takes the cake when it comes to writing a romance where the hero and heroine really get inside of each other and see each other without any masks! Very unique!
