Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Surgical Knots Book, 2nd edition, January 27, 2008 By Joseph J Grenier "jjg MD PhD" This book covers suturing, tying knots, and using the needle driver. There are no photos but high quality line drawings in black and white which illustrate the points. The granny knot, square knot, surgeons double loop knot, and Miller's knots are covered with single hand, both hand, and instrument ties. There is quite a bit of text as captions with the diagrams. I think this is one of the very best books on surgical techniques. The needle driver is very well covered showing things like vertical and horizontal mattress suturing. It is about 44 pages long. Good buy for the money. --Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Surgical Knots Book, 2nd edition, good book, need to have, May 30, 2007 By Huge (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews Ideal for those who need to be familiar with suturing techniques and are not doctors (like nurse practioners and ocean going mates and captains). --Amazon.com

I bought this book out of a curiosity about suturing in case of an emergency situation. I work, hike and travel alone and away from people much of the time. One of my most common injuries are small cuts that need at least a few stitches and on a few occasions,a lot of stitches.

This book covers the basics and for such a small book covers pretty much as much as a nontrained individual would want to go into. It makes things clear and simple. (in theory)

pretty basic intro to knot tying and your basic suturing methods. i was kind of hoping for something more comprehensive and ended up purchasing "Wounds and Lacerations: Emergency Care and Closure." but i guess this would be a good start if you have never sutured before.

a lot of the info in this guide can be obtained in the literature from one of the suture companies along with a practice board for FREE if you are a medical student

If you are one of those individuals that get into places that are way too far from medical assistance, in case you get injured (in this case, CUT [no arterial wound])and you need some basic medical knowledge about Suturing and some other injuries, this is, in my opinion, THE 'go-to" book

Suturing living tissue goes well beyond first aid, and I pray that I never have to undertake such a project. Having said that, IF I DO, I want to have at least an inkling about the task. This book is written in a way that looking over the drawings, and scanning the topics puts ones mind at ease thet IF HE HAD TO, he would be able to step up to the plate and give a good effort. I do reccomend at least reading through it one time to get a grasp on what may be needed in agiven situation, but I feel that if you have one more person to help with the prep and proceedures, this book will have been an excellant prep tool.

I learned these techniques from the first edition. A friend is a nurse and she has never done stitches and wanted to learn, so we bought this for her to be a Christmas gift.
