The more than 2250 high quality illustrations, 30% more than in the first edition, help you recognize and diagnose any tissue sample under the microscope. Five new chapters, additional expert authors, expanded tables, and coverage of the current clinical approach to management and treatment options, particularly screening and surveillance recommendations for preneoplastic disorders, round out this unique reference.
  • Acts as a one-stop resource for the entire gastrointestinal system, liver, biliary tract, and pancreas.
  • Incorporates over 2250 high quality color illustrations so you can recognize and diagnose any tissue sample under the microscope.
  • Provides all the necessary tools to make a comprehensive diagnostic workup including data from ancillary techniques and molecular findings whenever appropriate.
  • Simplifies complex topics and streamlines decision-making using extensive tables, graphs, and flowcharts.
  • Helps you avoid diagnostic errors thanks to practical advice on pitfalls in differential diagnosis.
  • Uses a new "road map" at the beginning of each chapter, as well as a new, more clinical focus to help you navigate through the book more quickly.
  • Reflects the latest classification and staging systems available so you can provide the clinician with the most accurate and up-to-date diagnostic and prognostic indicators, including key molecular aspects of tumor pathology.
  • Includes access to the entire contents online, from anywhere there's an internet connection.
  • Adds five new chapters including "Screening and Surveillance of the GI Tract", "Congenital and Developmental Disorders of the GI Tract", "Pediatric Enteropathies of the GI Tract", "Vascular Disorders of the GI Tract", and "Fatty Liver Disease".
  • Expands appropriate chapters with new coverage of the normal histology of the GI tract, liver, biliary tract and pancreas.
  • Uses expanded tables to outline specific differential diagnostic points helpful for surgical pathologists.
  • Discusses the key molecular aspects of tumor progression and risk assessment in all chapters that cover neoplastic disorders.
  • Helps you evaluate diagnostically challenging cases using diagnostic algorithms.
  • Increases the number of high quality photographs by at least 30% to include even more normal and abnormal tissue samples.
  • Updates all chapters to include the latest references, concepts, data, and controversies.
  • Incorporates expanded coverage of the pancreas and liver, eliminating the need for a separate text.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Deserves the attention of the entire pathology and gastroenterology community . An absolute must for your sign-out room and departmental library" Modern Pathology, review of previous edition

"This is a considerably improved second edition of an excellent book that was well received by pathologists worldwide five years ago. It belongs on the list of essential pathology texts and should be in all departmental pathology libraries as well as general medical libraries. That way it could be used as a reference by nonpathologists, including internists, surgeons, and radiologists." Doody's Book Review, 4 Stars **** "The 2nd edition of this multiauthor GI pathology textbook is a must-have for pathologists practising lumenal pathology of the GI tract" Pathlab.org, October 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most complete reference GI pathology texts out there., July 20, 2009
This review is from: Surgical Pathology of the GI Tract, Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas: Expert Consult - Online and Print, 2e (Hardcover)
Personally, I have found this book to be one of the most complete and comprehensive GI pathology textbooks out there on the market now. I love it because it also covers the liver, pancreas and biliary tract, making it the prefect one-stop, one volume GI textbook. I will say that at times the pictures are not the largest but the quality is excellent....just my thoughts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for all pathology residents and practicing pathologists, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Surgical Pathology of the GI Tract, Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas: Expert Consult - Online and Print, 2e (Hardcover)
Everything you need to know about gastrointestinal pathology is in this book and it's really complete. Every entity is discussed from the most common to the rarest ones and accompanied by representative pictures. The differential diagnosis is well discussed and in this regards, lots of tables have been added from the previous edition. You just can't go wrong with this book as a pathology resident, gastrointestinal fellow or practicing pathologist. The fact that you can access the text, references and images online is awesome!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars due to a major inconvenience, December 16, 2009
This review is from: Surgical Pathology of the GI Tract, Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas: Expert Consult - Online and Print, 2e (Hardcover)
This book is one of the best in the field of GI/Liver Pathology. However, there is a major inconvenience, for which I removed one star from an otherwise perfect score. The inconvenience is caused by deliberate omission of the references in the end of each chapter. This causes a lot of frustration to readers who wish to explore the originating articles. I sincerely hope they would change this in the next release.
