3.0 out of 5 stars Surgical recall review, November 9, 2003
By

This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
The one thing that other reviews fail to mention - don't buy the 3rd edition (2002) unless someone else is paying for it - like the military. The 2nd edition (1998) can be found at places like half.com and used through Amazon at less than $10 including shipping. The differences between the 2 editions is minimal - so many of these medical books are only updated to ensure higher sales - students are always worried that they are buying out of date information and so will pay the extra.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Holy Grail of Surgery Books for the Med Student, August 31, 2003
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
How could anyone not like a book where the author's first and last names rhyme? This is an incredible book, easily the best in the Recall series, and could very well be the most useful book I have ever read on any topic. No filler, boring anecdotes, or pointless stories of some author trying to impress you with how cool he/she is, just plain facts. This book was ideal for the oral exam at the end of my rotation. Unless you have large amounts of time to study during your surgical rotation (snicker), DO NOT buy any other text. For the love of all things sane, DO NOT read the Lawrence book. Too wordy, and doesn't have nearly as much info. as Surgical Recall. It is the greatest book. I'm just disappointed they haven't made Neurosurgery Recall yet...

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely essential, May 4, 2006
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
This is a classic that is absolutely essential for all medical students on surgery rotations. It presents a ton of critically important information in a succinct bullet format with adequate minimalist use of illustrations. I have seen it referenced by everyone from third year medical students to third year residents. There is no other comparable resource that packs this much high yield information into such a small and convenient package. However there is one caveat-this book is written in a bullet format and without adequate context provided by a review book written in prose, this invaluable resource can degenerate into a random array of facts. Therefore I advise that a student read a prose review book in surgery in addition to surgical recall. However, DO NOT NEGLECT TO READ THIS BOOK DURING YOUR CLERKSHIP OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.
