Surgical recall review,
By David A Hill (Palatine, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
The one thing that other reviews fail to mention - don't buy the 3rd edition (2002) unless someone else is paying for it - like the military. The 2nd edition (1998) can be found at places like half.com and used through Amazon at less than $10 including shipping. The differences between the 2 editions is minimal - so many of these medical books are only updated to ensure higher sales - students are always worried that they are buying out of date information and so will pay the extra.

The Holy Grail of Surgery Books for the Med Student,
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
How could anyone not like a book where the author's first and last names rhyme? This is an incredible book, easily the best in the Recall series, and could very well be the most useful book I have ever read on any topic. No filler, boring anecdotes, or pointless stories of some author trying to impress you with how cool he/she is, just plain facts. This book was ideal for the oral exam at the end of my rotation. Unless you have large amounts of time to study during your surgical rotation (snicker), DO NOT buy any other text. For the love of all things sane, DO NOT read the Lawrence book. Too wordy, and doesn't have nearly as much info. as Surgical Recall. It is the greatest book. I'm just disappointed they haven't made Neurosurgery Recall yet...

absolutely essential,
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
This is a classic that is absolutely essential for all medical students on surgery rotations. It presents a ton of critically important information in a succinct bullet format with adequate minimalist use of illustrations. I have seen it referenced by everyone from third year medical students to third year residents. There is no other comparable resource that packs this much high yield information into such a small and convenient package. However there is one caveat-this book is written in a bullet format and without adequate context provided by a review book written in prose, this invaluable resource can degenerate into a random array of facts. Therefore I advise that a student read a prose review book in surgery in addition to surgical recall. However, DO NOT NEGLECT TO READ THIS BOOK DURING YOUR CLERKSHIP OR YOU WILL REGRET IT.

great for residents and rotating PA's,

I just finished my surgical rotation and this book was a life saver! It's a user-friendly read and gives a short chapter on all the surgery basics, helping me manage the dreaded Q&A's from my preceptors. And this may be silly, but it was small enough to throw in my jacket pocket so I could tote it around with me. This is worth the dwindling cash, trust me.

GOTTA GET IT,
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
If you were doing a surgery rotation on a desert island, and could only have one book - this is it! Easy to read, concise, fits in your pocket. AND it is loaded with clinical pearls, so you won't look like an idiot on rounds. I have shined in many "pimp" sessions thanks to this book. Please, do yourself a favor and get it!

great for surgery rotation!,

I only discovered this book when I was reviewing for the boards. Had I found it during my surgical rotations, it would have made an impact on me but it wasn't too late! I scored high on my exam (esp in surgery) thanks to this awesome book. I highly recommend it! Buzzwords, common diseases, concise format make it a 5/5 for me!PS: I found some fave q's of my surgery residents here. Yep they love to torment us with weird stuff sometimes, but with this book, you can put one over them!

Good for rounds, need extra for the shelf exam!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
Everybody seems to love this text, and it is extremely useful at the hospital for those 5-10 free minutes to prepare on on of your cases/patients. Warning: My friends that read only this book and listened the the lectures did poorly on the shelf exam. I suggest reading The Essentials of General Surgery text by Lawrence, which I checked out of the library, cover to cover. This was an excellent text that is in depth enough to prepare you for the shelf, but short enough that you can read the entire thing in about 6 weeks.

The book to have for your surgical rotation.,
By Herman (Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
I loved this book. Surgery rotations involve many long hours, leaving very little time to study. This book was concise and to the point, giving you the information you need to know while leaving out all of the unnecessary words. It saved hours of reading thick wordy textbooks and allowed me to get a good grade, as well as looking good when it came to be pimped. A must for any PA or medical student or resident.

A GREAT LITTLE REVIEW BOOK ON CLERKSHIPS,
By MISHMANKA (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
This book was a great resource for 3rd year medical school clerkships. Every single pimp question I received from my attending came right out of this book. I was amazed! A lot of times I would only find out about a case I was scrubbing into 5 minutes before going in, so this book came in handy for cramming in last minute questions relevant to the case. I probably wouldn't use it for the shelf by itself, but keep it handy during your surgery rotation and you will shine!

Quick, Informative and easy to read Review book!,
By Imran Khalid (Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Surgical Recall (Paperback)
Surgical Recall is the book, I saw first when i was just buying some surgery books on a book store. I studied a few pages, and found it very easy to understand. It is really a good book, especially if you just want to have a quick review before exams. Now it is very exciting that about 50 of my classfellows are using this book.I would suggest to study a text book before using this book.
