Book Description

March 18, 2005 1860944949 978-1860944949 2
As final examinations approach, medical students often become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of knowledge required to pass all subjects in one go, including surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, pharmacology, and psychiatry. Students cannot know each of these subjects in as much detail as they did during their individual attachments and they need to concentrate on important topics rather than minutiae. Whereas existing textbooks cover many topics very well and in great detail, they are lengthy and difficult to read in a short space of time; some subjects are poorly covered and give no real understanding of practical management and logical thought processes - the exact requirements for passing finals. In this second edition, each chapter has been extensively rewritten and updated with the help of experts in their respective subjects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Single Best Surgical Book for Medical Students, October 23, 2011

Concise and readable, topical and accessible. If forced to chose one book for 3rd year surgery, this would be it. While not exhaustive, it serves an excellent core text to be amplified and annotated via other sources (Essential Surgery, Surgical Recall, The 'Net).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best surgical text out there, April 6, 2011
This review is from: Surgical Talk: Revision In Surgery (Paperback)
There are few medical textbooks I've ever read that are written with the clarity of this book. Its dense text may look offputting on a first glance but it's when you start reading, it's as if someone is simply talking to you.

It covers all the bases clearly, sometimes in not enough detail, but certainly well enough for 3rd (and possibly 5th year) medical exams.
Get it. Enough said.
