This review is from: Surgical Technology Review (Paperback)
This book is in excellent study format, written in an understandable language for the average every day Joe, such as myself. I would highly recommend this book to anyone preparing for AST Certification.

Surg. Tech. review guide,

This review is from: Prentice Hall's Complete Review of Surgical Technology (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I think this is a good review book for a Surgical Technologist who is about to take the CST exam. Not only does it have a lot of good questions, it also contains review/study areas that explain the answers. So instead of just giving you the answer, it shows you why it is the answer. Very helpful.

Don't Second Guess yourself!,
This review is from: Prentice Hall's Complete Review of Surgical Technology (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
If you are a graduate or student in a Surgical Technology program and you are studying to pass the National Exam then definitely spend the money to buy this book.
Be sure to get one with a disk because the practice exams are REALLY going to help you be prepared for the exam. Don't second guess whether you should spend the money, it is money well spent. You won't be disappointed! When you get to the exam take a DEEP BREATH and RELAX! You will have plenty of time to go through the exam, answer the questions that you know then review the exam and choose the most likely choice. You will do fine if you get this book and take the time to review it. Good luck!

What diskette?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Surgical Technology Review (Paperback)
This book is very helpful in that it reviews basically everything that you need to know for the AST exam. The major problem is that there is a defect on the diskette and that it will not work, not this one or any of the other ones that you may get.

This book was more of an asset for studying. Each section has an outline and covers the basic information and surgery explanations that you need to know. I used it to pinpoint which parts I needed to focus on, usually parts that were early in my clinicals, etc.
There aren't a lot of sample questions, for that I also bought the Appleton & Lange review book. Between the two I passed the exam on the first try!

Very Confusing Book,

This review is from: Prentice Hall's Complete Review of Surgical Technology (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This book does a review in outline form and does not give detailed explanations . I was more confused after reading through this book. I would not recommend this book. I would recommend the Appleton & Lange's Review for the Surgical Technology Examination by Allmers and Verderame which is much easier to understand.

I bought this book and studied the hell out of it, and in my oppinion it just got my mind thinking more scientifically. Otherwise, I thought the AST exam was very hard. It was not just one question to answer for each number, they were multi question questions. I was a surg tech 12 years ago and wanted to get recertified to go back to work, so I studied no big deal, and I was a pretty knowledgable tech. but I did not expect that test to be so intense. As far as I'm concerned that book did not portray the ACTUAL or somewhat similiar format that is in the test. Eventhough I haven't been working for 12 years, I have been taking pre requs for nursing, so I'm not completely out of the loop. All I can say is I'm glad I was a tech for 7 years, because I don't think I would have passed that test, but fortunately I did do very well. But I think it was from my previous knowledge, not this book. Really take your time and think about every question very carefully. Study alot of surgery details. That's what I mean, if you never worked as a surg tech, I don't know how many people could pass this test well. But if the book is all you have It's better than nothing. Good Luck

I bought this for my step father, who is currently studying to become a surgical technologist. He uses this review to study on a daily basis. He has not taken the CST yet, but he has taken many practice tests online and always passes them. I am confident he will do well on the real thing, thanks in part to this very helpful study guide.
