Book Description

September 1, 1992 0810825767 978-0810825765 An Annotated English-Language Bibliography
The Netherlands Antilles and Suriname (the Dutch Caribbean) had the same patterns of discovery and struggle for control among the colonial powers as the French and English-speaking Caribbean. They emerged from a history of slavery and colonialism with economics rooted in the plantation system. The major bibliographies of the area have included items on Suriname only, in various languages, and held exclusively in libraries in Holland. This bibliography, however, provides a single source for the identification of over 1,000 published and unpublished works, written in English, on Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles and held in twelve libraries within the Caribbean region. It is therefore especially useful to researchers seeking items in English not only in Suriname, but on the Dutch Antilles as well.
