Allie Hagan's blog is a hilarious, fresh take on celebrity gossip. I love the blog and check for updates every day. The book is all new material that reinforces well-known sentiments from the blog (disliking Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Willow Smith, and TomKat, etc.). The book is pretty funny, but is somehow less gripping than the blog itself. Maybe it's because the blog is more topical while the book is much more general. The blog has a little more bite to it as well.
There are some really great segments in the book that made me laugh out loud. She describes Will and Jada's efforts to make Willow Smith famous as a "fool's errand." (page 25) Allie Hagan's "Suri" is a little jealous of Harper Beckham and hastens to point out that "everyone seems to overlook that Harper has a rather shapeless body, forcing her mother to dress her in shift dress after shift dress," which is quite funny since, for those of you who don't know, Harper is a baby and supposed to be shaped like a potato with arms. (page 49) My favorite moment, however, is the lecture on ladylike behavior: ladies never wear out their welcome. "Suri" adds, "Lady Gaga, I hope you are watching the clock." (page 92)
I really respect Allie Hagan's ability to create a believable character in her version of Suri. As I read the book and blog, I often forget that Suri's not actually writing it. This book is a great effort by a new author and I recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor and at least a mild interest in celebrity gossip.
