If you are a science teacher who wants to challenge your students to higher-level thinking skills, this modest-sized book is for you. The paradoxes will make you wonder about things!
For example, if you heat a ring made of metal, will the interior opening increase in size, decrease, or remain the same. [It will increase--which is why you heat the stubborn metal covering of a jar to help unscrew it.] Other questions deal with Archimedes, pendulums, the dangers facing a submarine sinking in sand or sediment, water movement in a coiled hose, gravity acting within a would-be Earth-orbiting hollow asteroid, and much more. Each of the puzzles is typically a page or less long. Answers to each puzzle can be found at the back of the book. There is also a handy topical index included.
