Editorial Reviews

Incognito is recognized as one of the best Funk/Jazz/Soul outfits in the world, a pioneer of the Acid Jazz movement who has delighted listeners and dancers for decades, scoring hits with versions of Stevie wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" and Ronnie Laws' "Always There", selling more than a million records in the process. Surreal is Incognito's look into the future, featuring two of the brightest young stars on the British Soul scene, Mo Brandis, who is being hailed as England's John Legend, and soul diva Natalie Williams of whom Time Out writes "One of the UK's hottest singers. She effortlessly moves from soul diva to sensual and sophisticated jazz." Long time Incognito lead singer, the incomparable Maysa, is also featured on this brilliant set of 12 Bluey Maunick originals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incognito - Surreal March 26, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Bluey has done it again. This cd is... well... surreal!!! It is music at it's finest. It's right up there with the time when music was at it's finest - the '70s. It's uncommon today for a cd release to have more than two or three good songs and very rarely do they have a GREAT song. This Incognito cd, "Surreal" has ALL good songs and multiple GREAT songs. Highlights: Maysa shines (as usual) on two songs and makes the cliche'ish "The Less You Know" sound refreshingly new. Mo Brandis opens your eyes and makes "Goodbye To Yesterday" pop right out at you and then Natalie Williams draws you right back in with "Above The Night." What a way to begin a cd!!! Cruise on toward the middle and Vanessa Haynes breaks it all down on the superbly smooth sounding plea, "Don't Break Me Down." What a GREAT song!Just one of the superbly written songs I might add. After that Natalie Williams gives us a moment to reflect and look at "The Stars From Here" where she takes a previous Incognito sound and adds the uniqueness of her voice to lull us to sleep. Wonderful. Vanessa then teases us on the beginning of "To Be With You" like she's going to let us dream, then BAMM!!! awakens us like she really means 'to be with you.' The cd ends with two of the funkiest tunes since the '70s. Vanessa takes us to a new place on the next to last song, "The Way You Love." This song gives Vanessa Haynes a signature Incognito song similar to the ones Bluey has penned for just about all the "Cog Family" women. This is a GREAT song. The final cut, "Thoughtful Fantasies" is essentially a signature funky Incognito instrumental with some nice background vocals. These two songs bring back the funk and nothing but the funk! Musicianship on this cd is top notch. Rhythm section is awesome as usual. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars wow! and wow again! March 31, 2012
Format:Audio CD
well how do i start? first let me say i am a long time Incognito fan,,have all thier music.. on my very 1st listen when i bought this on tuesday i was not impressed at all..then two days later I AM HOOKED!!!! Bluey i dont know how u do it with consisstantly making hit song after hit song.. On my very 1st listen i only liked track 11...but now can hardly get past the 1st song without repeating them. Bluey i hope u didnt cut a deal with the devil to keep up with making beautiful music like this. if i had to critique one thing on this Cd it would be that there were no slow tempo jams on it but i end up taking it back because u guys get the message "love" across so well that a "slow Jam" wasnt really needed. i ended up buying two Surreal Cds lasst tuesday and i was a lil pissed that Best Buy didnt have it in stock so i ended up buying them from FYE and payed 15 bucks apiece for them..i was used to paying only 9.99 for a new Cd when its purchased within two weeks of when the Cd first comes out.. but now when i think of it,with how this Cd makes me feel had i bought it for 50 bucks i would feel like i got a steal!

Bluey NEVER disappoints!!!!! I have been a HUGE fan of Incognito and Maysa for many, many years and have all of their CD's and once again Bluey did it again! I thank you for another fantastic CD and wonderful music that I can relate to being a huge jazz fan myself. There are no words that I can find to express how this band & the singers are incredible and this is what is missing from the radio stations today!!! Simply wonderful as usual!

It's so nice to get a CD that you can just put in and enjoy from start to finish. Every song is great and the tunes weave themselves together effortlessly which makes for a very pleasurable listening experience. "Don't Wanna Know" just makes you want to get up and dance. Long live the Cog!

5.0 out of 5 stars This kind of music is so rare today June 18, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this C.D. with reservations because some the recent incognito C.D.'s have not matched the quality of some of their earlier C.D,'s. Boy was I surprised. This is one of the best works from bluey and the crew. Don't wanna know, restless as we are, above the night, are stand out tracks but there is not a week track on the whole C.D..Bluey has a knack for intoducing the industry to stand out vocalist and he does that here with Mo Brandis and Vanessa williams who stands out more on this record than she has on past C.D.'s. if you are a fan of this group you do not want to miss this one.
