Editorial Reviews

Review

With captivating characters that warm and nearly break your heart, an intriguing, can't turn the pages fast enough plot, and a passionate love story, I was touched, inspired, and encouraged in my walk of faith. All the passion and adventure of the War of 1812 spring to life in MaryLu Tyndall's wonderfully written and researched Surrender the Dawn. An absolute pleasure to read from first to last!

 - Laura Frantz, author of The Frontiersman's Daughter, Courting Morrow Little  and The Colonel's Lady

Swordplay, swashbuckling and sweetness. . .Tyndall’s newest book combines fascinating history, adventure on the high seas and the taming of the town rogue into a novel packed with excitement and delivering on romance.

~T.L. Higley, author of Pompeii: City on Fire

A good old-fashioned historical packed with rich, beautiful details launches the Surrender to Destiny series with pirates, swordplay and lots of romance. The characters are so much fun, readers will not want the book to end. Tyndall is a gem, and her characters are bold and believable.

With her third installment in the Surrender to Destiny series, MaryLu Tyndall has once again delivered a novel that is packed with just the right mix of adventure, suspense, and romance. Through vivid descriptions and strong characterization, Tyndall has a true talent for bringing these characters to life and pulling her readers into the action.

I always love reading Tyndall's books; and since they are set on the coast, I find them to be perfect summer reads.  I highly recommend Surrender the Dawn; and if you have not had a chance to read any of her other books, please pick up a copy.  You will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Read! July 22, 2011
Format:Paperback
Cassandra Channing's determination to save her family from destitution sends her on a near impossible quest. The war of 1812 presents the unique opportunity to invest in a privateer--yet no man is willing to submit himself to a woman investor. The town rake, Luke Heaton, isn't the most reputable. With only a broken sea vessel that will cost far too much to repair and no one willing to take a chance on him, he knows his luck is short. When the beautiful Miss Channing offers to invest in him, he knows he can't turn the opportunity down. Is it possible she could be the answer to his deepest desire--a new start?
As Luke and Cassandra work together, an undeniable attraction pulls them closer together. When it finally seems as though Luke may have his new start, the British blackmail him into selling to them and betraying his country, risking everything he holds dear.

Once more MaryLu Tyndall takes readers on an epic sea adventure filled with danger and heart-stopping romance. In this satisfying conclusion to the Surrender to Destiny Series, readers will find themselves engaged in this thrilling and unique story. Through detailed and vivid description, she breaths life into the War of 1812.

From the fist page, I couldn't put it down. Filled with brilliant writing and determined characters, I hung on every word, desperate to know what would happen next. Mrs. Tyndall is a talented writer who captures the thrill of a high-sea adventures and awakens the sea-lover within (Yes, even me--and I hate the sea!).

A word of warning however: this book is not a continued progression to Surrender the Night (#2). Since Surrender the Night is a continuation to Surrender the Heart (#1), I naturally expected the third to progress in time. I found myself a bit baffled at first, when I began to read about events that I could have sworn had taken place in the last novel. Turns out they had taken place. Rather than progress with the series timeline, this novel backtracks a bit as it shifts some of the events that took place in the last story to the view point of our new characters. This only happens toward the end of the novel, though. I personally found it intriguing and clever, though some may find it baffling. If you keep this mind, the story will seem uninterrupted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bound for your keeper shelf!! July 27, 2011
Format:Paperback
There are few writers who can take you from first page to last and keep you riveted but MaryLu does it again and again. This latest book draws you right in and leaves you smitten and rooting for the very human, very moving hero, who tries to do the right thing despite incredible odds. His journey to love and a relationship with His Savior are so well done and ring true throughout. The characters are utterly believable, poignant, and even funny at times - a wonderful combination. Her research is impeccable! And she has such a unique way of phrasing things not often found in historicals - beautiful and evocative. You'll really feel you're aboard ship and then when you return to land you'll experience all the sights and sounds and smells of the rich setting. Thanks so much, MaryLu, for another inspiring read! Can't wait till the next!

This is the first book I have read by MaryLu Tyndall and I'm hooked! Immediately after reading the last page, I was on the computer looking to see what else she had written. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time! It's romantic but not cheesy and the situations are believable. The religious infusion is very tastefully done - any Christian, no matter denomination, will be comfortable with the spirituality.

Cassandra, the main character, is complex, and humanly imperfect. Her strength and determination are invigorating! Luke's unfortunate lifestyle is understandable and allows the reader to consider how judgmental we can all be without walking in another's shoes.

Enjoy!
