"Extremely powerful read---the truth is I feel wholeheartedly connected with these characters and their story. I think everyone should read this book, especially those who enjoy angst, as this story is FILLED with it.."

~Katie Love Romance Books

"It's been a LONG time since I've savored a story. This book was beyond amazing...it was more than words can describe. It flowed beautifully and was written masterfully. This was my first historical romance and I cannot wait to read books 2 & 3."

How do you fight against fate? You don't. You can't. You can only surrender to fate in Jacelyn Rye's new release!

Some say fate holds the cards. But what if love deals the hand? No love goes untested. Ever. Indeed, true love is left to prove itself. And that is exactly where fate steps in to play the game.

For William and Sarah, that game begins with growing up, in the unspoiled mountains of Colorado. In a time and space as clear as the Rocky Mountain skies above, these young souls together learn about life, what matters most, what endures, what doesn’t, and about love. Innocent young love moves ever so surely toward lives they both can picture, lives spent loving each other in a place they know so well and cherish.

Will and Sarah are ecstatically swept away in the swells of new love. And it is in their rarefied bliss that they make the fragile promise of first love, a promise that fate will soon rock and pound into doubt, guilt, and epiphany.

Unexpected and unprepared, these young lovers are suddenly torn apart, first by distance, and then by the far greater pressures of temptation that test the very fidelity of their heart-held promise. No longer able to console each other, hold each other, touch each other, they face the inevitable decision: move on to other loves, or cling to the faith that they will someday be together, again.

Will and Sarah stare down an unknown path, sensing destiny will not wait long before it comes to take them. Wracked with doubt, they wonder if their love was real. Caged by guilt, they both feel tempted by others intent on stealing their hearts.
Fate plays hardest when love is tested. And Will and Sarah are no exception, letting go of their happy past to embrace hope for an uncharted future. Love plays hardest when fate tests. And so it is, even through their trials of the heart, Will and Sarah never really stop loving each other. Theirs is a love so real and pure that each just wants the other to find happiness, even if it's with another.

But fate does not surrender so easily. Dealing blow upon blow, both Will and Sarah are each struck by jolting events that take them to the very edge of life, itself.
Sarah and Will hold tightly to their past, but steadfast promises begin to wane. Life continues, filled with romance, drama, and two souls yearning to understand the challenges brought with coming of age, and learning that fate is ultimately in control. What happens to love when life is on the line? Can they both relinquish control when love is on the line? Will fate even allow them to find out?

About the Author

Jacelyn Rye is many things. She can be as alluring as the love that flows from her pen: pure, honest, simple. But then, like a storm that suddenly appears over the mountain, she can also have you running for shelter where there’s no place to hide. Like life, itself, Jacelyn delivers the hard with the soft, the pain with the joy, the instant with the forever. All of it, for a reason. And it’s there that one can best enter her life. Growing up in the blue sky country of Colorado doesn’t leave an impression, it becomes a lifeblood. For Jacelyn, the clarity of that truth flows through her stories, her characters and her inherent spirituality that somehow knows faith, in the end, triumphs over despair. And then, there’s serendipity. To know Jacelyn is to accept a dance with chance. She accepted one such chance when she moved from her beloved Colorado to an unknown life awaiting her in Southern California, where she happily lives today. In the quiet mornings, you’ll find Jacelyn savoring her coffee, outside. To her, it’s all about listening, breathing in, appreciating being here for another day. And of course, there’s time spent in the mountains, fishing, wading in creeks with the people she loves. Curiously, this girl who comes from the mile-high mountains, still fears the miles-deep ocean she frequently visits, but only to sink her toes in the hot sand and watch, in awe and respect, the thundering surf. On any given day, be it in the mountains, at the beach, or on her terrace, Jacelyn is dreaming and writing, her way of sharing something meaningful with those who come to know her through her stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!!! October 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Excuse me, while I get a tad teary writing this review. This book owned me, completely. I can get pretty emotional reading an amazing story but this one took those emotions to a whole new level. At first glance, I wasn't sure if I'd like the fact that the book is set between 1939 and 1942, but I can tell you that I am its #1 fan and I am hanging out for the release of Shattered By Fate.

While reading the prologue, you get so excited because it promises a happily ever after. I can tell you that this is not exactly the case, but don't let that deter you from reading it without having the next book released. You NEED recovery time between Surrender To Fate and Shattered By Fate!

Those first moments when Sarah and William realise they love each other.. my heart melted to a puddle on the floor! Though, just when you think that they have a chance to allow their relationship to grow, Sarah is forced to move away with her family when they can no longer afford to run the family farm. They make a promise that they'll stay in touch and she'll come back to him so they can grow old together.

During their time apart, factors separate them even more than the distance. This is the time I took out shares in Kleenex because I cried through a whole box of tissues. When the characters are miles apart and are hurting each other without knowing it, I cried because I felt like I was betraying them by knowing. It hurts too much!!!!

The book ends in a cliff-hanger and I am about ready to go insane because I need to know that Sarah and William are okay and they will live happily ever after. I just need more Sarah and Will in my life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it. October 3, 2013
By Jessica
Format:Kindle Edition
"What if your heart and your head are telling you two different things? How do I know which one to listen to?"

Sarah and Will have been friends ever since they could remember. Just when they promise to be with each other forever they are suddently surprised when one has to leave. The promise they kept in eachother heart was that they will always be together. With distance and time it became harder and harder coming to terms that they may not possibly see each other again. Now both are left with a hard choice: Do they keep their hearts reserved for just each other or learn move on and to give their hearts to someone else.

This book was placed in the 1930's -1940's. Normally I'm not into books based on the past. I didn't realized until I got into the book that it was and by that time I was already enjoying the book. This book was a bit slow at first but once things moved along I found myself enjoying this sweet and heart breaking book. I thought this book was sweet, steamy and filled with drama. I loved that the POW kept switching around to different characters it helped me connect to the characters more. I feel that even if this book was based on the past people now can relate to that feeling. Having distance between someone you love can be hard and its learning what to do from there that people can relate to. Do you just hold your heart for the one you live far from or learn to make new experiences and see other people with different possibilities?

Oh and as one reader to another I feel like I should warn you, this book has a cliffhanger. Friggen hate cliff hangers and I was reading a bit of the little sneak peak for the next book and then when that cut off too I knew I just set myself up a dissapointment. Can't wait to see what happens next. 4 of 5 Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Find...A Must Read December 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am a believer! A total believer in Author Jacelyn Rye. I am not sure where to start this review because this story contained so many elements that typically turn me off as a reader. However, Jacelyn Rye TOTALLY NAILED IT in this storyline. Did I want to throw my Kindle? Check! Did I want to slap a character or two? Check! Did I want to swap positions with Sarah in a truck? Hell Yes! The title of this book sums it all up! Your heart better be ready to go on a long and angsty journey while reading this book.
This really is a beautiful love story. Love stories are not always wrapped up neatly with a red bow and perfect wrapping paper. This story takes place in the 1940’s. The two young characters that fall in love are absolutely easy to fall in love with as a reader, but like I said not all love stories are perfect. They are torn apart by circumstances, and remember it is set in the 1940’s, so communication was out of the question. How is possible to stay true to their feelings? Life moves on, and so do they in their own individual ways. Oh, and you know you have to have characters you love to hate! Don’t you worry, enter Margaret. Who is Margaret, you ask? Well you will just have to read to find out, but trust me you will want to slap her.
Then we have Adley, and this is where I am really torn as a reader. I love Adley. Like totally and completely love Adley and his strong-pushy attitude. I want him to kidnap Sarah and go live happily ever after on some tropical island. Obviously, I am not the author, and have to read book #2 to see where this beautiful love story ends!
Thank you Jacelyn for a beautiful read & please don’t break my heart! #teamadley
“Because after tonight, the sound of the rain will bring back memories of what I’m going to make you feel. You will hear the sound of rain, and you will remember my lips.” -Adley
