Christopher Blanchard Was Everything She'd Ever Needed…Yet Didn't Want

Ariane de Valmont prized her independence above all else, and to secure it, she'd struck a seductive bargain with a tantalizing American. Now she feared that in this heart's gamble, le beau sauvage, as Parisian society had named him, held all the cards….

The son of scandal, Chris Blanchard caused a sensation among the "beau monde," intending to settle old scores and quickly be gone again. Until he was caught by the gaze of Ariane de Valmont, whose eyes bespoke a forever kind of love….

Review

Christopher Blanchard is in Paris to inform Odile and Maurice Blanchard of Charles Blanchard's recent death, and they hate Chris because his father left them for his (Chris') mother. But before he died, Charles tried to make amends by secretly buying shares of Credit de Paris, a business venture of Maurice's and the Duc de Morny, and now Chris anonymously owns the shares. Comtesse Ariane de Valmont meets Christopher Blanchard at the theater in Paris. She is a beautiful aristocrat whose parents have brought her to Paris to find a husband. Ariane does not want a husband, but she is attracted to Christopher from the moment their eyes make contact. The Comte de Valmont promises Ariane that she may decide for herself who she will see, and Ariane chooses Chris. Later, she snubs the Duc de Morny in favor of Chris, and the Duc wants her even more. She approaches Chris with a proposal that he act as her suitor to discourage any others, and the same would work in his favor. But that is not enough for Chris and he counters her proposal with one of his own: that she give him a fair chance to seduce her. This is a gamble that Ariane is willing to take as she and Chris indulge in sexual sparring and banter that both irritates and excites her as she falls under his spell. Ariane needs Chris's help again and when he complies, he is the target of revenge. Chris continues his pursuit of Ariane and circumstances later force them to marry. They love each other, but neither one admits it, fearful that the stakes are too high to lose. Ariane is attacked by the Duc de Morny and she finds comfort and love with Chris. Ariane is afraid of losing her independence and control of her land and money if she admits her love for Chris, but when she acknowledges her love, she willingly surrenders her heart.Very different from her last book, but Surrender The Heart is just as admirable! Classic Beaumont! She doesn't let her readers down! Well written and a delightful read!Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

I love the setting, which is in Paris. You have two people who you would think would be the last two people to marry each other, and they end up marrying each other. Despite the odds against them of ever having a real marriage to each other, it ends well. The ending is unexpected. THis book is beautifully written. I would reccomanded it to anyone and everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars CAPTIVATING ROMANCE OF THE HEART!, July 29, 1999

Nina Beaumont truly is an up and coming writer. Ariane and Christopher are the type of characters you really don't know if you should love them or hate them. They are so self involved that they really make you NEED TO KNOW why they are that way. It is a non put down read. If any one knows if she has any other novels like this one out there let me know. If you have never read one of these love novels this is the one to start with.!!

2.0 out of 5 stars I just couldn't get into it..., February 15, 2008
This review is from: Surrender The Heart (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just had to put my 2 cents in & say that I don't think this book is as good as these other people stated. I forced my self to read it half way through & then I had to close it for good. I read 1-2 weeks per week 90% of them are historical romances & it may have just been the setting for me because I don't much care for the European settings but most books pull me into them regardless of that but that wasn't the case here. I found the book quite slow & boring. Because I didn't finish this book I wouldn't normally leave feedback but when I saw only 2 reviews & they were both 5 stars I though maybe I'd save some people from thinking this was that terrific of a book. You may have a different opinion if you love a Paris setting but for me I don't think that was the whole reason.
