Surrender to the Highlander,
This review is from: Surrender To The Highlander (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rurik Erengislsson's childhood friends, Magnus and Sven, have come to Lairig Dubh where Rurik has been living with his uncle and the Clan MacLerie to tell Rurik that his father wants him to come back home and take his rightful place as heir. As a bastard son, Rurik has always craved the acceptance and love of his father so he returns.
Rurik is sent by his father to fetch Margriet Gunnarsdottir from the convent she has been living in for years and bring her home. Rurik is fascinated by Margriet. Although she dresses as a nun and even claims to be one, Rurik is sure she is not. He intends to find out why she is pretending. Margriet is hiding more than one secret. As she journey's home to her father she regrets her lies to Rurik but Margriet is convinced that she has no other choice. Rurik and Margriet have much in common and their mutual attraction continues to grow. Is there a future for them together when they return home and truths are revealed and lies exposed? Surrender to the Highlander is an angst filled romance filled with forbidden love and unfulfilled desires. I liked both Rurik and Margriet. I was almost convinced there was no way for them to be together. The story unfolds dramatically and romantically. Surrender to the Highlander is a good story with a perverse and cruel villain and many amiable characters. Nannette reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

The book was not like what i expect it to be i was hoping for more romantic between the character and see their feeling develop over time but it was more like he was the only one doing most of the wooing and the story was mostly focus on getting her home safety and him wanting to reach home and be accepted by his father. I love her other book but this one have disappoint me very much. i was really happy when i found out Terri had wrote a book on Rurik Erengislsson i was expecting more out of the story since he seem to the expert about women.

Well, I deserve to be disappointed - I have no idea why I bought a book without any rating on Amazon! So I hurry to stop you doing the same mistake and buy it...
It's one of the few books that succeeded to do more than leave me cold - it really made me hate the characters! If you can believe it, the story is of the love that starts between a pregnant 18 years old fake nun and a hero that suffered for years about being bastard even if he had great friends, all the females he wanted and a home where everybody loved him. This great love starts while the lady is deeply in love with the man to whom she gave her virginity only months ago and who's child she is carring(??!!). Very realistic!! I never read a romance book where the love scene takes place with the happy bride almost on point of giving birth (and to the bastard of a criminal). Just try another book!

I purchased this on a lark and was very happily surprised! Occasionally the dialect written was annoying but I believe it was a sincere attempt at being true to the period. Rurik and Margriet were sweetly contrary at first and that made their story all the more endearing to me. Ms. Brisbin definitely knows the line when writing her scoundrels into the story. Thorfinn was horrible! However, he was not so horrible that it ruined the story as has happened in a few I've read. I'm definitely putting this author on my "must read" list.

Brisbin's well researched book grips you from page one. Rurik, who cannot rid himself of his rough Viking heritage, has sworn to bring a reluctant Margaret home where he will have to face his father. Rurik and Margaret are both wounded with their own secrets. I won't spoil it for you by telling you what they are. Read the book and find out! Pearl Wolf

Although the story is predictably sweet, it is well written and portrays the characters in a very believable way.
I recommend this book for those who want a quick romantic novel. |
