"Surrender" is a great CD!!! I love each & every track on the album!!! These girls have great voices & a unique sound. The ballads are smooth & sexy, however I find myself more attracted to the beats & melodies of the songs, rather than the lyrics...the entire CD is basically a "love-making soundtrack", that will put you "in the mood" every time you hear it. The over-all sound of this album definately has a "Keith Sweat" vibe. I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!! It's one of my all-time favorites & I highly recommend it!!!!!

Kut Klose---Still sounds good in '08,
By Ron Bacardi "Rod" (Richmond, VA) - See all my reviews

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who really enjoys listening to this album. It's been 13 years since the album was released and I just love listening to it. Call me crazy but it just has a very nice flow. I put it on at work and even when I get home. I wish that Kut Klose would have done more because all three ladies are extremely talented. So if you don't already have a copy of "Surrender" go ahead and get it. If you're a music lover like myself you'll enjoy the album.

Kut Klose.......Ladies I'll Make You Surrender,
This review is from: Surrender (Audio CD)
Tabitha, Athena, and Lavonn, I'll leave all of my women for you three. Let's talk music, Surrender, I Like, Keep On, Giving You My Love Again, and the songs with Keith Sweat sound great. These ladies were in the range of groups like SWV and Jade. That's a good class to be in.

This is a great CD. Everyone should have this CD! The girls can truly sing and all the songs are awesome! Personal favorites include: "Get Up On It" with Keith Sweat, "Giving You My Love Again" and "I Like." This may be their only album but it is one of the best R&B albums in music. Buy this today, you will surely enjoy it from beginning to end, as I did.

Keith Sweat's female "Silk",
By A. Lawson (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Surrender (Audio CD)
Keith Sweat crowned his prominence as a top-notch producer with his first proteges, the male outfit Silk, in 1992. Sweat would return three years later with Kut Klose, a female outfit. Writing mostly about sexual erotica, Kut Klose was introduced as the female version of silk. The lady-trio had it all; an outstanding lead vocalist in Athena Cage, looks to die for, and a great marketing scheme. Then the album drops..."Lay My Body Down" is a bouncy, up-tempo tune that harkens the "a cool, summer day". Great lead-off track. "Don't Change" is a mid-tempo sizzler that displays tight harmony and likeable lyrics. The slick and seductive "Get Up on It" follows. A snuggler at best, it was the first record that featured the trio, taken from the Sweat's 1994 effort. "Do Me" is another mid-tempo treat that features male collaboration. It's probably the weakest track on the album, but that's hardly disposable. "Lovely Thang" keeps it mid-tempo with another offering that is best remembered for its melodic chorus. This concludes the first half of the record. The second half opens with the title track. It's with sweat dropping a background lyric in there to make the track more seductive. the female proteges continue in their sexual slow jam drive with "i like". with its well-orchestrated chorus, cage's enticing vocals, and a slick production, "i like" reached #8 on the r&b charts. just as enchanting comes the next track, "keep ON". although its relatively short, its still an enjoying listen. cage gives lavonn and tabitha a chance to shine on "giving you my love again". once again, the women show their pleasant harmony while taking their respective leads throughout the track. my favorite track, "sexual baby", has an interesting niche. their is a bridge right before cage finishes the song that makes the song more memorable, in my opinion. rounding out the album, there is a pointless remix of get up on it. quite interesting, but not distinctive enough. all in all, you can make the argument that sweat and his personnel wanted to boast about their sexual fantasies. you can make the argument that kut klose was desperate for stardom and would sing anything to get it. you can even make the argument that this is sweat's crowning production project(which would be hardly the case). one thing is for certain though. whatever everyone's intentions were, the case can be made that they all succeeded. on that note, this album is hardly an essential '90s r&b must-have. it has its moments, but not enough to desperately seek. this project is for the die-hard keith sweat fan or die-hard seductive '90s slow jam fan.

Kut Klose: The Female Keith Sweats,
By
This review is from: Surrender (Audio CD)
Keith Sweat's female group clearly continues Keith Sweat to the max. The entire is album has Keith Sweat's entire sound signature on it along with Kut Klose writing and arranging on some songs with two or three other producers other than Keith Sweat. Songs to look forward to are "DO ME", "Sexual Baby", "I Like", "Surrender", "GET UP ON IT", and "Keep On". Each song is great. I only hoped that this female group could have been promoted better in 1995 and 1996. The potential for success is there, but there wasn't enough people to back it up. ANYWAY, BUY THE ALBUM. It's a peaceful, melodic, and relaxing collage of R&B that's not bad on the ears or in your R&B collection.

Get Up On It!!!,
By Enlightened "Both Eyes Closed, see what u don... (Atlanta Georgia) - See all my reviews

I Don't know what some of these reviewers were yapping about but this album was a classic. It's true they didn't make it to a second album but it's not because they couldn't sing, had boring music, or any of that other jazz people would like you to believe. This group was monumental for their slow jams so if you wanted to dance Kut Klose didn't excel in that category. However for true R&B listeners that are appreciative of the ballad/slow jam/midtempo will no doubt enjoy this one. The album only sounds out of place when they try a dance song (Lovely Thang for example) and while those songs aren't outstanding, their vocal talent makes the song at least enjoyable if not memorable. Surrender, I Like, Get Up On It, Like You've Never Been Done Before, and Do Me are bonafide classics. The rest of the songs aren't quite up to that caliber but are by no means bad songs or boring songs. Keith Sweat wrote and produced a good majority of the album so it has his signature sound on it but Kut Klose have distinct voices and excelled over Sweat's arrangements. The cold hard truth is that everybody doesn't make it. That's just how it is, but talent wise these girls are right up there with Xscape, En Vogue, SWV, Changing Faces and most other good girl(woman?) groups from the 90's and Surrender can go toe to toe with any of those groups albums. Another truth is that most of the 90's groups only had one great album out of 2-4 anyway and then fizzled out so Kut Klose only having one album shouldn't be a deal breaker. Their songs were played just as much as well. Kut Klose is one of those groups that didn't quite get the recognition they deserved but if you measure how good an album or song is by how high it charts...well then...this isn't for you. Athena Cage, the lead singer, was "the bomb" and these songs have great staying power and replay value. I wholeheartedly recommend Surrender to any fan of 90's R&B or slow jams |
