From the Back Cover

A secret fantasy.
Hunter had everything until a bullet put his career as a Navy SEAL on hold. Restless and in need of distraction, he accepts an intriguing proposition. Restless and uncertain about his future, he accepts an intriguing proposition: share an acquaintance's girlfriend and fulfill her fantasy of a ménage. It should have been just a night of sexual adventure between three consenting adults. But Kata is like no other girl Hunter has ever met. By turns audacious and sexy, then vulnerable and aloof, she's a heartbreaker he's determined to master. But he needs more than one night. And he wants to do it alone.
An uncontrollable obsession.
Kata never expected to leave her comfortable relationship and explore something so dangerously forbidden with a stranger. Hard as she tries to resist, the guilty pleasure overwhelms her, and she surrenders herself, inch by inch, to the hardcore man who wants her for himself. Consumed by blazing desire, they're soon threatened by the shadows of the past. And now to keep Kata safe, Hunter makes her a bold proposition of his own. Saying yes will destroy her heart. But saying no could cost Kata her life.

For Kata's twenty-fifth birthday she flies to Vegas with her "friend with benefits" lover Ben and friends to celebrate. Months ago she had told Ben one of her fantasies was to have a ménage - and Ben has decided this trip is the perfect opportunity to give her this gift. He calls up his friend Hunter Edgington, a Navy SEAL who is on a week vacation while recovering from being shot. Hunter takes one look at Kata and it is love at first sight.

When Ben ends up too drunk to make it into the bedroom for the ménage, Hunter is more than happy to have Kata all to himself. Hunter is a dominant, and he can sense a submissive nature in Kata, although she vehemently denies it. When Kata's life is endangered, Hunter becomes her protection.

Let me start by saying I didn't like Surrender to Me. Hunter is a very alpha hero - we are talking all out, no holds bar alpha. He is a dominant and when he finds Kata, he immediately recognizes the submissive nature in her, even though she denies it. That is all fine and dandy. I love alpha heroes, if done well. An early description of Hunter:

She could decorate the house however she wanted, name the pets, choose the vacations. He'd give her a lot of latitude during their married life, but he was in charge when it came to sex and her safety.

Or:

"Your obedience goes straight to my cock honey."

Okay - sometimes reading about an alpha hero like this can be fun. But I don't feel like Hunter is a good hero at all.

First, I don't believe in love at first sight. Lust, instant attraction? Sure. Love - knowing you want to be with this person forever after knowing them for less than one hour, or even 24 hours? No.

The Wicked Lovers series is one of my favorite erotic series. This one doesn't disappoint. It's the story of Hunter, a Navy SEAL on leave and Kata, a parole officer with a long history that's made it hard for her to truly connect to a lover. They meet in Vegas. Kata's friend with benefits, Ben, has a surprise for her.Kata has always fantasized about a menage a trois and he's brought in his buddy Hunter to make it come true. What Ben doesn't count on is the fact that Hunter is wild about her the moment he sees her and suddenly doesn't want to share. Ben makes it easy by getting drunk and passing out. After several hours of amazing sex, Hunter and Kata feel a deep connection. They impulsively get married at a Vegas wedding chapel, but the next morning Kata rethinks the whole thing. Hunter is so overwhelmingly alpha and dominant that she's utterly unsure she wants a relationship with him. He's into BDSM and Kata, while attracted to him and his lifestyle thinks it's not for her.She leaves him in Vegas, but he follows her back. It's a good thing since someone is stalking Kata and Hunter has to save her life. I loved this book for the deep connection between the characters. They fight, but he's the only man who could bring her to the place she needs to be. Also - great follow up on beloved characters! I loved seeing Jack and Morgan, Deke and Kimber and Luc and Alyssa again. Can't wait for Tyler's book.

This book was ridiculous. Hunter was the WORST example of a Dom I have ever seen. He completely disregarded the needs of his submissive to satisfy his own. He decides within minutes of seeing Kata that he wants her forever. Supposedly he is an experienced Dominant, but his actions contradict that. The very foundation of a D/s relationship is trust, and Hunter takes a woman he just met to her suite and proceeds to dominate without any dialogue or boundaries determined. Kata has no experience or training as a submissive, yet he thinks he can just tell her she is a submissive and she will accept it when there isn't a bond of trust between them because they JUST MET. He does not KNOW her, and therefore has no understanding of the dynamic between Kata's mother and her stepfather, Gordon. But even once Hunter sees the interaction between Kata's mother and stepfather, does he try to work with Kata through her fears? NO! He is so obsessed with his needs and his time limit, that he forces more domination on her instead of building trust. This Dom was disgusting and impossible to respect. I could not even accept that his care of Kata was for her benefit. It felt as though everything he did was still in his own interest to make sure his needs were met. And the ending? Instead of building the relationship between the two of them, she receives training from another Domme? Great way to begin a relationship. "Sorry, husband. I could not trust and submit to you, but I found someone else and trusted them enough to work through my issues. Let's stay married, yeah?" This book was a pathetic portrayal of a D/s relationshp.

So how do you follow up a deliciously decadent erotic bestseller? With another one even more erotic, more decadent and more delicious. Shayla Black's Wicked Lover series continues with Surrender to Me and the story of Hunter Edgington, a wounded Navy Seal out to do a buddy a favor. But Hunter has his own agenda; grabbing what Hunter likes and wants...which can go a little off the charts.

Hunter is a man of extreme desires and sharing a beautiful woman for a night with a close friend is not beyond his realm of experience. Kata has a birthday wish and Hunter is here to help fulfill her fantasy.

But what he didn't expect is the way this beauty gets under his skin and into his heart. With one look Hunter is no longer interested in sharing and uses his own maneuvers to get this woman all to himself. This is going to be more than a one night stand but Kata is just not ready to play along. She comes with her own baggage; an overbearing and dominant stepfather, a very ill mother who cowers to his every demand, sisters who think they know what is best for her and Hunter's past catching up with him in the form of an unknown killer aiming for her and no understanding of why or who he is. Mix in a hasty marriage, a menage with a stranger, overbearing relatives and lots of hot, sweaty sex and you have a really great novel.

Shayla Black always comes through for her readers. Her ability to combine a suspenseful story and then ease into powerful and sometimes overwhelming passion is the trademark of her novels. Her writing is creative, colorful, intelligent and entertaining. She brings to life characters that are unforgettable and, even better, they will carry on into the next story of this series. Make room in your schedule to spend time with Surrender to Me.
