Book Description

Step into a breathtaking novel of adventure and romance set amid the War of 1812. During an assault by an enemy sailor, timid farm girl Rose McGuire is saved by the least likely of heroes—a British Naval Lieutenant. Now that he’s wounded, she’ll have to heal as well as hide him. Alex Reed is being aided and abetted by his enemy—albeit an innocent and attractive one. But he might be doing Rose more harm than good if his presence on her farm is discovered. As their love blooms, trouble looms. Will this couple survive another British invasion?

Editorial Reviews

Tyndall writes with such vivid detail readers will feel a part of the action and romance as they experience a historical event they won't soon forget. The message that God uses the unlikeliest people to carry out His plans will resonate.
(Chandra McNeil RT Book Reviews 20110308)

I loved this book! I could not put it down. The author does a wonderful job of taking history and writing a novel that draws you in. Again I loved how she wrote about God in this book. It was so real so powerful. I also enjoyed seeing Noah and Marianne again and how they played a small role in this story as well. Again I was drawn into what the people of that time must have been feeling as their capital city was burned.

(Abbie Tireman Abbie's Reading Corner 20110307)

SURRENDER NIGHT by MaryLu Tyndall is an amazing inspirational Christian romance set in 1814 Baltimore,Maryland. It is the second in the "Surrender to Destiny", and can be read as a stand alone, although some of the characters return in this story...This is an inspiring story of love, family forgiveness, saving a country, finding your faith.coming to terms with your past and moving toward a future with hope, faith, peace and most of all love,a home and family. This story is for all historical romance readers and is  full of adventure and danger with romance and love. Once again this author has made a story to treasure. It is a MUST READ and a keeper.

(April Renn My Book Addiction 20110328)

This Tyndall novel surprised me, because it was the first of MaryLu’s books not set at sea.  While British Navel Lieutenant Alexander Reed (who we met in Surrender the Heart) played a pivotal role, the story remained firmly anchored on land.
The themes of seeing people for who they are, rather than for the labels that we hang on them, and of overcoming fear by trust in God despite difficult life circumstances found purchase in my life.  And who doesn’t love a romance that develops against all odds?

(Rachelle Sperling Sojourner's Journey 20110328)

A description-heavy story that authentically takes you back to the second war of independence. Characters are drawn with depth and sensitivity. A story of forgiveness, trust, hope and love.
(Carolyn Scheidies Author's Choice Reviews 20110401)

I was so engrossed in this story, I was unable to put it down. This was one of the sweetest love stories I have read (and I read many!) I am looking forward to reading the next in this series, but these books are also fine as a stand alone.
(DeniseSchirmuhly Goodreads 20110406)

Another great book by M.L.
I love how the story plays out and when the book ended I was sad I wanted more of this story. It was good seeing characters from the first book in your series and seeing where they are now and what has happened to them. Some of the secondary characters in this book really add to the story.  I cant wait for the last book in the series.
(Jenny Blake Come Meet AusJenny 20110516)

This book is a suspense thriller as both Alex and Rose’s lives are in serious danger from the beginning.  Don’t start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it.  I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book in the series.
(Victor Gentile Vic's Media Room )

A description-heavy story that authentically takes you back to the second war of independence. Characters are drawn with depth and sensitivity. A story of forgiveness, trust, hope and love.

5.0 out of 5 stars By land or by sea, MaryLu does it all effortlessly!! March 13, 2011
By land or by sea, you'd be hard pressed to find a better romantic adventure than what the pen of MaryLu Tyndall can provide! "Surrender the Night" (book 2 in her "Surrender to Destiny Series") takes us from a family farm in Baltimore to the White House in D.C. It is a story of two people separated by war, nationality and prejudice. An unlikely pair to be sure, yet they must work together and in so doing find a love they never imagined and troubles that are destined to test it at every turn.

Rose McGuire is a humble, compassionate, beauty who works hard on her family farm, where she spends most of her time. Well acquainted with loss and pain, this warm, loving girl carries around the cold, heavy chains of fear that keep her a prisoner of her memories - memories that have since destroyed her trust in people, specifically men. But when a man, a British naval officer to be exact, comes to her rescue and gets terribly wounded in the process she is left with no choice but to nurse him back to health. She never imagined a trust so completely destroyed could ever be restored again, especially in the presence of the enemy - both British AND a man.

Alexander Reed is a British naval officer who finds himself fighting a battle on land instead of the familiar waves. Chivalrous, tender-hearted, and a gentleman through and through, there is such depth and heart residing in that tall, muscular frame of his. We first met him in Surrender the Heart but I don't think I realized then just how handsome and physically powerful he was- probably because Luke Heaton had me quite distracted ;) We caught glimpses of his heart and his desire to do what's right in the first book, but he grew so much in and throughout this story that I just fell in love with him!

Rose McGuire life has not been an easy one. At a young age she was orphaned and robbed of most of her inheritance by her caretaker. Five years ago, she was sent to live with her aunt and uncle's farm in Baltimore, Maryland.

At the farm Rose found happiness that she never knew existed. There she is able to work on the farm and take care of the animals. Rose is unaware of the devastating war of 1812 taking place outside her safe home. Her peaceful existence is disrupted one night when she is attacked by a British soldier. Rose is saved when British 2nd Lieutenant Alexander Reed steps in and saves her from being attacked by his superior officer; in saving Rose he is gravely wounded.

Even though Alex is her enemy, she knows that she cannot turn her back on his injuries. She hides him away and tends to his wounds. As she takes care of the injured man Rose gets the opportunity to get to know Alex. She finds out that he is a caring confident man, one who she finds herself quickly falling in love with.

As each day passes, it grows more difficult for Rose to keep Alex's hiding place a secret. She fears that the town's people will discover him and think she is a traitor. If you have ever heard me talking about the "pirate books," then.... well, this is the author! This author holds nothing back. She lets her imagination run wild, and we get to experience the thrill ride with her. The first series I read by MaryLu Tyndall (also printed as M.L. Tyndall) was "The Legacy of the King's Pirates." These books are meant to be read with your undivided attention and stand alone as some of the best in the Christian fiction genre. Her next series was the "Charles Towne Belles," which continued along the pirate theme. Are these the only books in the Christian market tapping into the great subject of pirating? It is so rich and so full of possibilities! I wish there were more out there set in the days of pirating! A link to learn more about MaryLu Tyndall and how she does pirating -- I mean authoring -- is [...].
If you loved the pirate books, you'll love her new series, "Surrender to Destiny," just as much. It doesn't have any pirating in it (although there are a few references to privateering), but setting it right at the cusp of the American Revolution is still a daring move for an author. Historical books like this take an incredible amount of research, and they are much more difficult to write than contemporary fiction for this reason alone.
The second book in her third series "Surrender to Destiny" is "Surrender the Night" which focuses on Rose as the main character. A minor character from the previous book "Surrender the Heart" is brought back as the male protagonist, and I was really excited to see him here. The crux of the story is that America is at war with the British, and Alexander Reed has found himself wounded severely at Rose's farm. She nurses him back to health, and as an impromptu decision hires him as their new man of work.
