Editorial Reviews

Review

Tyndall writes with such vivid detail readers will feel a part of the action and romance as they experience a historical event they won't soon forget. The message that God uses the unlikeliest people to carry out His plans will resonate.
(Chandra McNeil RT Book Reviews 20110301)

I loved this book! I could not put it down. The author does a wonderful job of taking history and writing a novel that draws you in. Again I loved how she wrote about God in this book. It was so real so powerful. I also enjoyed seeing Noah and Marianne again and how they played a small role in this story as well. Again I was drawn into what the people of that time must have been feeling as their capital city was burned.

(Abbie Tireman Abbie's Reading Corner 20110215)

SURRENDER NIGHT by MaryLu Tyndall is an amazing inspirational Christian romance set in 1814 Baltimore,Maryland. It is the second in the "Surrender to Destiny", and can be read as a stand alone, although some of the characters return in this story...This is an inspiring story of love, family forgiveness, saving a country, finding your faith.coming to terms with your past and moving toward a future with hope, faith, peace and most of all love,a home and family. This story is for all historical romance readers and is  full of adventure and danger with romance and love. Once again this author has made a story to treasure. It is a MUST READ and a keeper.

(April Renn My Book Addiction 20110308)

This Tyndall novel surprised me, because it was the first of MaryLu’s books not set at sea.  While British Navel Lieutenant Alexander Reed (who we met in Surrender the Heart) played a pivotal role, the story remained firmly anchored on land.

The themes of seeing people for who they are, rather than for the labels that we hang on them, and of overcoming fear by trust in God despite difficult life circumstances found purchase in my life.  And who doesn’t love a romance that develops against all odds?

(Rachelle Sperling Sojourner's Journey 20110307)

A description-heavy story that authentically takes you back to the second war of independence. Characters are drawn with depth and sensitivity. A story of forgiveness, trust, hope and love.
(Carolyn Scheidies Author's Choice Reviews 20110328)

I was so engrossed in this story, I was unable to put it down. This was one of the sweetest love stories I have read (and I read many!) I am looking forward to reading the next in this series, but these books are also fine as a stand alone.
(DeniseSchirmuhly Goodreads 20110328)

Another great book by M.L.

I love how the story plays out and when the book ended I was sad I wanted more of this story. It was good seeing characters from the first book in your series and seeing where they are now and what has happened to them. Some of the secondary characters in this book really add to the story.  I cant wait for the last book in the series.
(Jenny Blake Come Meet AusJenny 20110401)

This book is a suspense thriller as both Alex and Rose’s lives are in serious danger from the beginning.  Don’t start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it.  I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book in the series.
(Victor Gentile Vic's Media Room 20110406)

A description-heavy story that authentically takes you back to the second war of independence. Characters are drawn with depth and sensitivity. A story of forgiveness, trust, hope and love.

5.0 out of 5 stars By land or by sea, MaryLu does it all effortlessly!! March 13, 2011
Format:Paperback
By land or by sea, you'd be hard pressed to find a better romantic adventure than what the pen of MaryLu Tyndall can provide! "Surrender the Night" (book 2 in her "Surrender to Destiny Series") takes us from a family farm in Baltimore to the White House in D.C. It is a story of two people separated by war, nationality and prejudice. An unlikely pair to be sure, yet they must work together and in so doing find a love they never imagined and troubles that are destined to test it at every turn.

Rose McGuire is a humble, compassionate, beauty who works hard on her family farm, where she spends most of her time. Well acquainted with loss and pain, this warm, loving girl carries around the cold, heavy chains of fear that keep her a prisoner of her memories - memories that have since destroyed her trust in people, specifically men. But when a man, a British naval officer to be exact, comes to her rescue and gets terribly wounded in the process she is left with no choice but to nurse him back to health. She never imagined a trust so completely destroyed could ever be restored again, especially in the presence of the enemy - both British AND a man.

Alexander Reed is a British naval officer who finds himself fighting a battle on land instead of the familiar waves. Chivalrous, tender-hearted, and a gentleman through and through, there is such depth and heart residing in that tall, muscular frame of his. We first met him in Surrender the Heart but I don't think I realized then just how handsome and physically powerful he was- probably because Luke Heaton had me quite distracted ;) We caught glimpses of his heart and his desire to do what's right in the first book, but he grew so much in and throughout this story that I just fell in love with him! In getting his POV we got a clear view into his heart and he isn't at all like the severe, detached naval officer he appeared to be. Yet our hero carries the heavy, suffocating chains of guilt and they drive him to prove himself to his family in the belief that he can atone for his past mistakes. Having known nothing of the warmth, love and comfort a family can provide he is amazed at what he finds and experiences with these rebel Americans. Slowly but surely he develops a love for this country and for a certain farm girl with golden hair and turquoise eyes. But there is one problem, she's his enemy - at least she's supposed to be!

So much stands in the way of Alex and Rose being together. It's as if the depth and breadth of the Atlantic Ocean separates them - and in a sense it does. Will they allow God to break the chains that hinder their destinies? Will they surrender the night to the One who promises joy in the morning? Or is the price of freedom higher than what they're willing to pay?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful sequel, I love these books! June 25, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
After reading the first book in this series, Surrender the Heart, I just had to read this sequel. I read some reviews on it and was glad to know that some of the same characters would be back again. I wanted to know so badly want had happened to the main characters and was hoping so much they would be brought into this story in such a way that I would have "closure" and they were! But this is a great book even if you have not read the first one. (Although I do recommend reading the first one if you can). I have since purchased all of Ms. Tyndall's books and am getting ready to dig into another one of her series with great anticipation! She is truly a wonderful writer and hers are the first romance books I have been able to stomach in ages. They aren't just romance, they are adventure, faith, suspense, and so much more. She brings these characters to life in a way that pulls you into the story and makes you wish the book would not end!!!!!!!!!! Thanks MaryLu, keep bringing us these great stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Destined to be a Winner! March 10, 2011
Format:Paperback
With vivid descriptions and a tender romance, all permeated with a sense of grandeur and destiny, MaryLu Tyndall has crafted another beautiful, exciting story! With an obvious love for the ocean, many of Tyndall's previous books have captured the reader's imagination through tales on the high seas. But with Surrender the Night, Tyndall has solidified her writing talent by spinning a marvelous and riveting tale on dry land!

As with all of Tyndall's other books that I have read, I found this book quite difficult to put down. The stakes continue to rise with each chapter, and the tension kept me turning pages into the early morning hours. And Tyndall is an amazing artist with words--she makes something as mundane and unromantic as a farm into a place of loveliness and refuge.

Another wonderful aspect of this story is the romance. Lieutenant Alexander Reed is a hero destined to warm the hearts of readers with his teasing, his charm, and his bravery. Not to mention his dashing good looks and his gentle heart! The love that grows between him and his beloved Rose is sweet, and it is wonderful to read about a love that promotes understanding and sacrifice.

Surrender the Night is a well-written, enjoyable, and inspiring story that reminds readers of God's plans for each of our lives and His overcoming and overwhelming love. And with interesting and poignant historical details, this second book in the "Surrender to Destiny" series is destined to be a winner!

*With thanks to author MaryLu Tyndall for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.*

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read.
Good storyline, enjoyed the book. It didn't seem realistic that the main male character would fight against the Americans and then turn around and be accepted by them.
