Cassandra Channing's determination to save her family from destitution sends her on a near impossible quest. The war of 1812 presents the unique opportunity to invest in a privateer--yet no man is willing to submit himself to a woman investor. The town rake, Luke Heaton, isn't the most reputable. With only a broken sea vessel that will cost far too much to repair and no one willing to take a chance on him, he knows his luck is short. When the beautiful Miss Channing offers to invest in him, he knows he can't turn the opportunity down. Is it possible she could be the answer to his deepest desire--a new start?
As Luke and Cassandra work together, an undeniable attraction pulls them closer together. When it finally seems as though Luke may have his new start, the British blackmail him into selling to them and betraying his country, risking everything he holds dear.

Once more MaryLu Tyndall takes readers on an epic sea adventure filled with danger and heart-stopping romance. In this satisfying conclusion to the Surrender to Destiny Series, readers will find themselves engaged in this thrilling and unique story. Through detailed and vivid description, she breaths life into the War of 1812.

From the fist page, I couldn't put it down. Filled with brilliant writing and determined characters, I hung on every word, desperate to know what would happen next. Mrs. Tyndall is a talented writer who captures the thrill of a high-sea adventures and awakens the sea-lover within (Yes, even me--and I hate the sea!).

A word of warning however: this book is not a continued progression to Surrender the Night (#2). Since Surrender the Night is a continuation to Surrender the Heart (#1), I naturally expected the third to progress in time.

I have read all of MaryLu Tyndall's books and I cherish them all. She is a fantastic writer who is not afraid to let the power of Christ shine through her work. I have read some Christian fiction that barely has a word about Christ in them, almost as if the writer were afraid to offend the reader. Not this author! No way! She knows that believers go through tough times and spiritual warfare and she portrays this in her work.

This book was, in my opinion, the best of the Surrender to Destiny series. It is set during the war of 1812 in Baltimore and she does a fine job of portraying the history of the time. I love history and she makes it come alive. During the British march on Washington and the battle at Fort McHenry, the author makes you feel as if you are there! There are also some fascinating tidbits that would ruin the reader who hasn't read the book yet, so I'll keep quiet.

Both Cassandra and Luke have turned their backs on God due to circumstances in their lives. But God is right there, ready to welcome them back and even encouraging them through the folks around them. He shows them in many ways that there are no coincidences for the believer in life, but God's hand at work in all things to bring good out of every situation.

There is adventure, excitement, romance and deep spirituality in this book. Tyndall writes mainly pirate books and she is supreme in this field. I felt my heart racing as Luke set out after the British merchant ship to take as a privateer during the war. The descriptions of what is going on are vivid and vibrant, so realistic I almost felt as if I were on the ship with the wind blowing in my face and the sea spray flying up on me!

And Luke Heaton? What can I say about him?

Surrender the Dawn... By MaryLu Tyndall
With her father and brothers gone from home, Cassandra Channing is taking care of her family. She wants to invest her money into something reliable, but no one wants to take investments from a woman. That is until Luke Heaton comes into the picture. Luke won a ship while gambling and he needs money to restore it, but with his drinking and gambling, can he be trustworthy? Will Cassandra turn all of her money over to Luke for the ship fixer upper? And it doesn't help matters when Cassandra and Luke start having feelings for each other as they spend time together. Read this wonderful historical story to find out these answers.
In Surrender the Dawn, MaryLu Tyndall writes another page-turning historical romance. The unique characters were so real I felt like I knew them personally. And I love that she so professionally weaves the characters from all three book together in this last book in the series. I will miss reading about these charming and fun characters.
This is my first series by MaryLu to read, and I am hooked! I love the passion she has for writing historical fiction, and the way that passion comes to life in her writing. Another thing I almost forgot is the message in her stories of the importance of living Godly lives. Of course these characters are just like people today, they struggle daily with difficult issues, causing them to turn their backs on God, but MaryLu so consciously teaches through her writing that when we let God control our lives, things are not perfect for us, but God will be there for us, carrying us through our difficulties.
I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy Christian Fiction of any kind. You will not be disappointed in either book in this series!
A huge thank you to the author MaryLu for providing me a copy of this book to read and review. I was not expected or required to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are my own honest opinions.
