I purchased this about half a year ago, and while it does seem to work somewhat (I can tell from dust in the filter.) The noise level increases greatly with age. It was never anything close to whisper quiet, but now it is about half the sound decibels of a running lawnmower. While I could tolerate it enough to turn it on when I was out of my room, it is now loud enough that people living in the dorm next to me can here it throughout the day. In addition to this, the effectiveness of it is dying as it gets louder. I am generally pleased with the things I buy from Amazon based on the reviews, and so despite at least six years of membership (in one way or another) this is the first review I have written. Before this I never had reason enough to warn other consumers.

My XJ3000D worked fine for the first 2 weeks, then it started to get a little noisier but it still worked so I ignored the slight extra noise because it was still quieter than any other filter I had tried. Over time, the fan slowed down & less air was moved, but it happened so gradually that I didn't notice. Finally, after using it for about 12 hours a day for 4 months, the bearings went out and the fan was nearly froze. I could smell the heat from the over-loaded motor. It was lucky that I was around at the time & noticed the problem or I might have had a fire!

Like a fool, I didn't save my receipt, so the 3-year warranty is useless. I probably wouldn't use it again even if it was repaired because of the fire risk.

Bottom line, I can't recommend this item.

i live in a household full of smokers. i have dogs, and a cat, whom contribute to dander issues. since i started using the indoor surround air-tech IIxJ-3000 ion air purifier, there has been a noticeable improvement in the air quality in my home. there is no lingering odor from smoking. actually, the only fragrance in the air, besides the cinnamon oil that i adore, is a clean, fresh air smell. i am extraordinarily pleased with the system. it is easy to use and is virtually noiseless, so it doesn't interfere with television or stereo. i highly recommend this product, as it is effective and affordable. :)
