3.0 out of 5 stars A little frustrated
I did a lot of research on various air purifiers and I liked this one because of the size and the fact it had about five filters including a UV light. I like the idea but it is noisy. I will qualify that with saying at times it is quiet with the fan moving. At low and medium it makes a click click sound forcing me to babysit it and move it about to eliminate the sound...

This is the second of this particular Air Purifier that my wife and I have purchased. The first one that we got we use up in our bedroom.,this one we use in the dining room mainly because our kitchen is ok for preparing foods but not of the "eat in " size. So, a lot of our eating and "entertaining" is done in the "Dining" room. You know the old saying,"of all the rooms in my home, everyone like my kitchen best". So, everyone appreciates the fresher circulated air that they breathe there. This unit recycles the air 6x every hr. Up in our bedroom we enjoy a more restful snore free nights sleep than we had BEFORE we acquired these units. They are definitely worth the money. And ,really, compared to a lot of other, more expensive, units, they do a much better job! AND, Let me Repeat that, AND YOU Don't HAVE TO REPLACE any expensive filthers. Just clean what you have once in a while! NO PROBLEMS!If you are in the market for something like this don't be sucked into "sizzle" that manufacturers of more expensive unit try to sell you on. This one REALLY does do the job. And at a much more reasonable price ,also ! Amazon is so quick and efficient that by the time you press the "submit order" button, UPS is knocking at your door with the Merchandise!{Well OK, maybe it Does take a day or two for delivery, But it is delivered SOOO fast it just SEEMS instantaneous!} You Will be satisifed! Sincere, Larry O, Pgh. Pa. Just a note, before I forget! No where in the instructions do they tell you this, BUT!!, here it is . When you get this unit in , what every one does, MYSELF INCLUDED! is ,take it out of the box, find a nice spot for it, plug it in , and go "AHAA"!. However, What you Haven't done yet, and no where do they tell you to do this, YOU MUST TAKE OFF THE FRONT PANEL AND REMOVE THE STUPID PLASTIC SLEEVES THAT ARE WRAPPED AROUND EACH FILTER!! If you don't, all you're doing is spinning your wheels as you are not experencing ANY benefits from this unit and all you have is a noise machine. After you've done this , you will have one of the BEST and most efficient and QUIETEST unit available on the market today!! LARRy "O",Pgh., PA.

4.0 out of 5 stars lives up to its specs, December 22, 2009

This unit is effective, even in a space larger than intended. Multiple types of filters seem to work together to do the job. We live in a second floor apartment; the people below us smoke heavily, and we get all their second hand smoke. This unit goes a long way nullifying the effect. We leave it on medium speed around the clock, so the timer is irrelevant to us. High speed is a bit noisy, but we only use it when cooking strong-smelling foods, or when downstairs neighbors try to burn down the building.

No problem recommending this model, but see companion review of N-Lite 5000, from the same manufacturer.

Hi,

Been using this product for about 1 1/2 months, expecting our first baby and wanted to start the air purification process and also test the product before the new arrival.

Product works as advertised, we found significant difference in the room air quality, especially as NJ resident, the fall/winters are cold enough and windows are closed, so there is a hot/humid, closed room smell. The air smells fresher and though we do not smoke, we can sense the difference.

The unit is slightly noisy especially at high speed,we have used it so far at lowest setting, but considering the overall advantages of low maintainence, electricity consumption etc...it is worth it.

Thanks

5.0 out of 5 stars The S3000 Works, February 12, 2010
This review is from: Surround Air Multi-Tech S3000 Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I live in the midwest near corn and bean fields. For those of you that have had the fortunate pleasure of living near agriculture during the harvest season, you can appreciate the pollen counts. With 1 child with mild asthma and the rest of us with allergy symptoms during this time, we spend a lot of money on claridin. I bought 3 of these units a little over a year ago. I have 1100 square feet of finished living space on each of my 3 levels with lots of hardwood throughout. I placed 1 unit on each level and yes you need to remove the plastic covering the filters within the unit before turning them on. After years of dusting and swiffering the floors ever other day, my wife and I quickly realized that it had been almost a month since we had even picked up the dust rag and yet still no dust. It was nearly 3 months before any real dust even began to accumulate and this was because it was time to clean the reuseable filters. A neat trick we learned was to use the vaccuum cleaner bristle attachment to clean the filters monthly and we have yet needed to clean the hepa filter with soap and water. Just on the time we have saved on cleaning a 3500 square foot home alone makes these units worth every penny. I am no expert on air purity, fan speeds, recirculation rates, or sound decible levels but I can say that my wife, myself and the kids have had no real breathing issues post placing these units in my house. Also, I tend to smell the house up when I cook things like cheeseburgers and bacon in the kitchen but those odors are quickly absorbed by the S3000's. Yes it is loud on high setting but that to me just means it is moving a lot of air. This is easily fixed by turning them on high when we go to work or bed and then turning them down to low when we return and watch TV. They are virtually silent on low setting.

I researched nearly 50 units before buying these and I am very satisfied with this product. You cannot go wrong with the price and quality of this product. Seems to be no affect on energy cost either and we run these things 24/7.

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars great filter, April 2, 2009
This review is from: Surround Air Multi-Tech S3000 Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I got this to remove allergens from our cat and it noticeably purifies the air in my room (225 sq feet). The motor is quiet in medium and high modes, but makes a bit of knocking sound in low mode. It is powerful and for the price was a better option than other similar filters.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little frustrated, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Surround Air Multi-Tech S3000 Air Purifier (Kitchen)
I did a lot of research on various air purifiers and I liked this one because of the size and the fact it had about five filters including a UV light. I like the idea but it is noisy. I will qualify that with saying at times it is quiet with the fan moving. At low and medium it makes a click click sound forcing me to babysit it and move it about to eliminate the sound. Why should I have to hassle with that?

I also have grabbed it in the middle to eliminate the click, click sounds and thing I may have to wrap some kind of belt around it. I also have thought of oiling the shaft with WD 40. I will soon probably take it apart to see if I can find out the problem.

I like the idea of all the filters but am tiring of the noise. I think they can put out a better product. It is a rather simple machine with basically a fan and filters. So why all the noise? Is the fan defective? I don't know.

So I sit here and babysit my air filter. Think about this before you buy one.

It isn't cheap at over $140 for a housing fan motor and filters. I expect more.

John

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD THING I GOT THIS MODEL AND NOT ANOTHER, October 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Surround Air Multi-Tech S3000 Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Absolutely a great machine with lots of technology. Very cleanly and nicely put together. However this S3000 puts out some 180 or 200 cubic feet per minute... I forget the exact output.. but it was quite a bit more than the 106 cubic feet per minute which the same firms other machines put out. Even with nearly double the fan output, I thought the fan just barely had enough power when set on high speed. I'd recommend this model S3000 because of the increased fan output, but I'd not want any machine with a lessor fan output. Absolutely a great machine which does a great job.

I'd rate their other machines as the same, but they would be like running this machine on a 'slow' fan speed. Maybe that's all that's needed to clean the air, but I personally like to hear and feel the machine doing some work. This machine allows me to turn the fan speed lower, when I don't want to hear it working... but I feel the more air and faster it goes thru the machine, the more good the machine is doing. All of the TECHNOLGY... ions, light beam, charcoal etc is a great idea, but after further thinking and seeing other HEPA filter machines... it's the HEPA FILTER that does all the work, and all of the other junk is just bells and whistles... making for good advertising. Think hard and loud... when a Hepa filter removes 99.97% of impurities, its a bit foolish to worry about the .03% of stuff that gets thru.

The .03% then gets refiltered for every air change per hour that you operate it.. Id guess that 99.97% is a whole lot better than breathing air in a home with no purifier... and that NO MACHINE is going to be 100% efficient. Also hospitals would not have

problems with the spread of disease.... if all of these air cleaners were 100% and if they actually removed every bad thing in our air. These surround machines advertise as if their machine really cleans the air 'better'. Maybe they do, and maybe they don't, but by operating one, you aren't going to see any difference. High Quality machine, nicely packaged and PRETTY TOO.

Working well although it arrived damaged. Quiet on low and tolerable on high. It does remove odors from cooking so I recommend this product.

doesn't come close to their claims. Doesn't even keep a small room fresh, Fan is way too slow to move the amount of air they claim. Should have stuck with the large Honeywell. Had one that lasted 6 years and did the job of keeping the kitchen, dining room and living room fresh.
