I bought the STR-DN2010 to work with a new Sony 3D KDL-40HX800 Bravia LCD and a Sony 3D BDP-S570 Bravia Blu Player. It does a lot of new things like decoding SACD multichannel audio from the BDP-S570. But some things it does not do well at all.

For instance the highly touted "automatic" audio calibration. The STR- DN2010 algorithm mangles the high frequency response of my JBL Pro speakers making them screech and it does not seem to hear my Velodyne subwoofer well at all! It boosts the subwoofer level the maximum +10 dB no matter how loud I turn it up. After checking to see if there was a new firmware release, I gave up on the "auto" calibration and used my old Joe Kane HDTV calibration DVD.

Next the STR-DNB2010 interprets between track changes from the BDP-S570 as a total loss of input, causing the KDL-40HX800 into thinking that it lost communications with the STR-DN2010, switching the audio over to the TV speakers instead of the normal STR-DN2010. The Bravia sync handshaking with both the BDP-S570 and the KDL-40HX800 TV are rough at best.

Finally, the network interface is broken whenever the STR-DN2010 is placed in standby. It takes rerunning the manual network setup over again to restore the Internet connectivity.

All this points to the need for the Sony product engineers to clean up the firmware so this product does not seem like a Beta tester's nightmare.

I bought this receiver to replace my Sony STR-DA5300ES receiver to get better Bravia Sync support and have more HDMI ports. Unfortunately I found major problems with the firmware that is forcing me to return it. The receiver intermittently goes into mute without any reason. The Bravia Sync which is one of the main reasons I bought the receiver has bugs in synchronization and discovery with other Sony products that are supposed to support this feature. In addition, the receiver runs very hot in standby presumably because the 4 port Ethernet switch is on all the time. To be fair, this receiver has a nice design and if the problems are fixed, it would a good value for money. Unfortunately, Sony is notorious for being slow to bring out updates or abandoning the product once is it in the market. I'll be checking the reviews in a few months to see if some of these issues have been fixed.

I was a little skeptical about purchasing the SONY STR-DN2010 after seeing some of the reviews and the fact that SONY discontinued it, but considering the price and the amount of high-end features, I went for it. This receiver has worked perfectly, and the surround sound and video quality is truly unbelievable (at least in my living room). I have had the unit for a month, and have not had any issues. Recently connected it to an inexpensive wireless bridge and was able to connect it to my DLNA computer - and can pull music, pictures and video from the unit. It takes a while to setup - and you must read the manual, but it is not difficult and the results are outstanding. To be honest, I've never experienced better audio and video quality (all HDMI components) than with this unit. I would buy it again if I had the choice!

I almost didn't purchase this receiver based on several bad reviews. I'm so happy I pulled the trigger and ordered anyway. So far I believe I've used every feature of this amp and all have worked flawlessly. Many of the complaints in the negative reviews were addressed by setting the amp up correctly which I was able to do in under 20 minutes. I've owned 3 HD amps so far and several 5.1 amps before that and can attest that the ES circuitry borrowed from the 3600ES in this amp sounds as good as any $800+ Onkyo, Denon, or Pioneer I've owned. In all honesty, if it weren't for the people not understanding the product and writing bad reviews, the price may have stayed near the $800 MSRP and I wouldn't have paid that for this amp. But even at twice what I ended up paying, I think this amp is a bargain. I've been streaming 1080P videos, pictures, and of course lots of music from 3 different computers in my household.. all with no issue whatsoever! For the money, you will NOT be disappointed. Don't be fooled by self titled 'Audiophiles' who would bash Sony for sound and steer you from this amplifier. Unless you spend thousands of dollars on an amp, you won't notice the difference between this and a 'better' brand under 1k+

This Sony sound system was fairly easy to set up. The generous HDMI input settings allowed for me to connect almost everything I have to it. My only quibble, and it is a small one, is that the speaker wire connections were a little tough to get to connect properly. They were eventually corrected and I am enjoying high quality sound.

This is definitely for the audiophile in the family. The settings are generous and offer many ways to customize the sound. However, that flexibility in customization comes with a bit of price of complexity. If you are willing to review the manual and walk through the set up, you will be rewarded with a sound set up that is very customized to you.

I am glad I made this purchase.

This Sony receiver got low rating from reviewers however I think this should get at least get a 4 stars from me. Reason it works
Fine with a pair of speakers from Sony model ss-f7000. It's price is reasonable compared to $800.00 MSRP from Sony. Now it is
A lot cheaper.works way better than my old Sony receiver.3d pass through work ok too.All I need to do is to turn my DVD on and the receiver;and
TV all turn on.Switch to DVD source automatically; cool.Make sure you connect devices with HDMI cables for the receiver,tv and DVD player talk to each other. Sony DVD player, Bravia tv ,and this receiver work fine. Also my 3d Samsung DVD player work great too. Now priced around $ 300 delivered is fantastic. Thanks for reading this review. Jaya 2.
