Not 15 items at all , adequate,
By Wulfstan "wulfstan" (San Jose, CA United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: New 16in1 Survival Bottle Emergency Kit Whistle Compass (Misc.)
Ok, what this kit has is 5 items (some with several uses) packed into a bottle, total of 6 items.
1- Multipurpose whistle/compass/led flashlight/mirror/magnifier/match safe/thermometer. These things are OK, but the mirror is way too small for signaling, and the compass is barely adequate. Yes, pack this full of good tinder and some strike anywhere matches, and it's good for firestarting. A whistle is always a good idea, along with a led flashlight for signaling. Not a bad thing to wear around your neck or stuff in a pocket, but why pack this in a bottle? 2. A cheap mini "swiss" style knife. Not worth the trouble, you need a decent knife. This ain't it. 3. A decent magnesium firestarting flint. An excellent thing to carry (but why carry it in a bottle?). Get another one, and practice with it first. 4. A tiny towel. Why? 5. One of those cheap but still useful "survival blankets". Get a Heatshield bivvie instead or also. No food, no fishing gear, no 1st aid, no line/rope, no water purification, no tinder. There are other "survival kits in a bottle". This one is OK, but there are better ones for sale here, or you can make your own cheaper and better. Replying to a comment, he makes some good sense. The discounted price here is fairly good, and thus this "kit" could be bought to as a basis to start a better kit.

Handy little items,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I mainly bought this kit because it was a good value considering the number of items. I would not want to count on them as primary survival tools (don't skimp on that!) because they are not of the highest quality but the items have been great for mixing and matching for secondary kits.

Start over,
By Jim "Jim" (The Real World) - See all my reviews

A lot of junk seems to be possess the survival tag these days. Boy Scouts keep much better gear than this. Keep the magnesium fire starter and throw everything else out of this kit. Replace the plastic bottle with a stainless steel one so that you can use it to boil the water in if necessary. A much better compass than this one can be had for just a couple of dollars. Paracord is a must. Dryer lint makes better tinder and a lot can be stuffed into a small space. Add in fishing hooks, weights, and high-test line. Replace the cheap knife here with a good full-tang knife and a multi-tool. Much more can be added but these replacements will make life a bit easier in a real survival situation.
