5.0 out of 5 stars BUY IT! It's cheap and it rocks, what more can you ask for?, December 23, 1999
This review is from: Survival of the Fattest (Audio CD)
Just put it in and play it. I must have listened to this CD thirty times by now and I still love it. As with the other Fat comps, wonderful aggressive punk with great vocals and intellect. The price is right, it'd be worth the money if it sucked and it rocks oh so hard...

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive, February 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Survival of the Fattest (Audio CD)
I have not been able to beat my addiction to this CD in the two years since I stumbled upon it. Hundreds of my other favorite discs stay in their cases while I listen to Survival of the Fattest over and over. It's so varied that it never gets old, and it always gets me highly revved-up. There are a few duds that I skip over, but the best songs are so great that they make it all happen. Lagwagon's two songs are incredible enough that I went and waited for hours with a mob of weird underage kids for their show (which was fantastic and completely worth it). And Snuff, Propagandhi, Frenzal Rhomb and good old Tilt and NOFX fill the disc out. No Use For A Name is another great band if you don't listen to their trying-too-hard lyrics. The album in short: Solid!

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk Rock Greatness!, September 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Survival of the Fattest (Audio CD)
If you love melodic punk rock, get this CD! All the songs on this compilation are great! This CD is over 5 years old though, so these songs have been out a while. Chances are you've heard them on the full length CDs from each band on here. There are a few exclusives though. Check out the song "Vincent" by NOFX...probably my all time favorite NOFX song!

5.0 out of 5 stars Renewed my interest in pop punk!, August 2, 2001
This review is from: Survival of the Fattest (Audio CD)
I got this album for next-to-nothing at the 2nd (I think) Warped Tour. It had the effect of temporarily renewing my waning interest in what was becoming (and now is) an overly-genericized genre, and it's one of the few pop-punk albums I still listen to, along with my Bad Religion and Face to Face albums. Bring the joys! As a marketing tool it was genius, since it led me to buy albums from several of the artists, as well as 2 subsequent Fat Wreck comps.

If you want my advice, skip the other albums and comps and go straight for this. Somehow, the best Lagwagon, Tilt, and No Use for a Name tracks (as far as I've heard) wound up here, as did solid songs from Snuff ("Walk" is an incredible rush), Propaghandi, and Hi-Standard. The 3 cover songs (Tracks 1, 11, and 17) are punkified versions of good tunes and thus also worthwhile. A couple of the songs are uninteresting, but this is still one of the finest comps I've heard.

If you like what you hear here, I also recommend Snuff's first album (Snuffsaid . . .) and The Longest Line EP from NOFX (their best work). I can't say that the other Fat Wreck comps I've heard (Vol 1 and 3) have been anywhere near as impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the four best comps I've ever bought., June 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Survival of the Fattest (Audio CD)
Four compilation albums stick out in my mind when I think of the best ones I've ever bought (and if you don't have them, pick them up too): Give 'Em the Boot {Hellcat}, Moonshot! {Moon}, Cinema Beer Nuts {Hopeless, although there's bands from 14 different labels on it}, and Survival. This one took a while to grow on me, but when it did, it took over. Both Lagwagon songs are as impressive as they can be ("Sleep" is good, but "Lamens Terms" is better); the Me First & the Gimme Gimmes track is a godsend to my not-owning-a-record-player-'ing self; NOFX, as usual, rocks houses; Diesel Boy's song is good as (bleep-darn you censors! they'll learn those words sooner or later); and the more I listen to it, the Good Riddence song may be the best on the album. Most impressive is the way that this is one of the few comps (of four) where the number of songs that just straight out ROCK grossly overpower the number of "enh" songs. Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS NOW.

This is the best compilation of punk songs I have ever listened to. Fat Wreck Chords did an outstanding job of putting it together and it is well worth the 3 or 4 dollars spent. YOU ARE NOT PUNK WITHOUT THIS.......
