5.0 out of 5 stars This IS the Survival Kit for Leaders - A MUST READ -
There are a myriad of different management books available today. This one is different. You already know why you need a new book on management or you wouldn't be looking into this book now. What was available before "The Survival Kit for Leaders" just didn't fill the need. We need to more than survive. We need to flourish and it's a jungle out there. This book...

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible, pedantic drivel
Am I reading the same book the other reviewers read? This book is truly awful. No new ideas here, and the writing style is so laden with silly metaphors and cliches, I actually found myself moaning and whimpering. Here are two actual sentences:

"Such a happy confluence of strategic and tactical principles is not merely the stuff of myth confined to the early...

There are a myriad of different management books available today. This one is different. You already know why you need a new book on management or you wouldn't be looking into this book now. What was available before "The Survival Kit for Leaders" just didn't fill the need. We need to more than survive. We need to flourish and it's a jungle out there. This book provides a workable roadmap that can be used to navigate the pitfalls that can befall both new and veteran leaders and allow leaders to do more than just get by... this book will help direct you to success. The chapter on mentoring alone is worth the cost of the book. Do you know why you should be both a mentor AND be mentored? You will after reading this. After this read, not only will you want to mentor... you will actively want to FIND a mentor for yourself. Each chapter brings new level of revelation/insight to sometimes seemingly tired concepts. While you are setting your goals, make the first one to read this book. The time you spend reading "the Survival Kit for Leaders" will be an investment that everyone around you will benefit from. A good leader has an edge. A great leader has also read this book.

This is a leadership book that can actually teach you how to lead! You can read the 693 other books on leadership and management in your library, or you can just read "Survival Kit
For Leaders," and put it to work for you. This is one of a kind:
a truly interactive book that challenges, involves, and transforms you. The discussion questions in each chapter are the key. They make you participate in the many vital principles contained in the book, not just passively sit back. What a difference!

...This is the leadership book that lays it on the line for leaders in the trenches. Don't look here for fancy theory. This is the stuff you really need to survive today in the world where people really live.

I am so glad I read this book. I use the lessons it taught me every day. And I do mean it taught me. The discussion questions in each chapter are so important. I felt like I was in a great discussion group. This made the book real for me. Interactive. A great experience!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the heart of leadership., February 5, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Survival Kit for Leaders: An Interactive Way for a Leader to Become and Stay a Survivor (Paperback)
Beginning with a foreword by bestselling leadership guru Kenneth Blanchard, this book never lets up until the back cover. It actually moved me to tears in several places, especially during the accounts of the heroes of September 11, 2001 and World War II icon Raoul Wallenberg. Truly inspiring. And the idea-laden chapters on time management and mentoring should be declared national treasures. I found the discussion questions at the end of every chapter to be very valuable, too, because they forced me to think about what I was reading and apply the lessons to new situations. The book changed me, for the better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The New King of Leadership Books, April 29, 2004
By
Bonnie Lind (Universal City, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Survival Kit for Leaders: An Interactive Way for a Leader to Become and Stay a Survivor (Paperback)
Whether you are a leader within the business, military, non-profit, community, church, or family sphere, "Survival Kit For Leaders" is overflowing with ready to use survival tips. This book cuts right to the chase and doesn't waste your time with fluffy filler, blank pages, cartoons, or academic jargon. It is fast, fun, and very practical.

The time management chapter is the best of its kind I've ever encountered. It says more of real value in one chapter more than many entire time mgmt books manage to say. The same goes for the chapter on mentoring. It's hard to believe how much great information the authors can pack into one chapter. Refreshing, when so many books are really just a pamphlet that has been puffed full of air to make it look more substantial.

All the great books on management, leadership, time mgmt, mentoring, and success have a new king. "Survival Kit For Leaders" rules them all, where it really counts...in results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destined to be a bestseller, April 1, 2004
By
mtohm (Newark, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Survival Kit for Leaders: An Interactive Way for a Leader to Become and Stay a Survivor (Paperback)
No kidding, this book will be a leadership and management bestseller for many years. I have never seen so much usable information packed into one volume, and, even better, presented in such a fun, inspirational, and interesting form.

You know the cliche: You'll laugh, you'll cry. Well it applies to this book. The authors' humor often sneaks up on you and you find yourself laughing out loud. Then, next thing you know, you're in the middle of a moving story of the power of leadership to change lives, and you're moved to tears. When was the last time that happened to you while doing your professional reading?

I think the Time Mgmt chapter and the chapter about heroism, especially the parts about the 9/11 heroes and Raoul Wallenberg, were incredibly valuable. But they are just a small part of the vast wealth of life-changing insights that fill this great book.
