  • covers the latest laws, tools, and evaluative measures available for helping the special child.
  • stresses the practical, everyday issues facing the special educator, such as on-task behaviors, discipline, learning styles and academic achievement.
  • provides a special section packed with parenting tips, such as how to help children with their homework, how to improve their child's self-esteem and how to communicate better with the child.
  • presents specific classroom management techniques for working with the aggressive child...the slow learner...emotionally disturbed children...and others.
  • includes handy glossaries of educational, psychological and medical terms commonly used in special education.
  • written by a special educator and licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience in working with children at the elementary/middle level.
In short, this unique "survival kit" offers an unparalleled store of tried-and-true suggestions, current information, and ready-to-use tools that will, in the author's words, help all teachers "survive the pressures and derive greater rewards when working with special children."

This review is from: A Survival Kit for the Special Education Teacher (J-B Ed: Survival Guides) (Paperback)
As a teacher of Special Education, when I found this book, I knew I had found something great. I found it to be a great help in understand IQ scores, parts of IQ scores, and disabilities. There were very specific ideas to help students in your classroom with various disabilities. There was a great section for parents and helping parents learn to accept their child's abilities and disabilities. I bought this book for myself and later lent it out, I never had it returned. I talked my school into ordering one for every Special Ed teacher in our school. All of us have found this to be an excellent reference.
