Book Description

What critics are saying about the Steen O'Mannon Survival Mode series: "Best read this year"..."I love this series!"..."Lots of action"..."Well-written"..."Keeps you on the edge"..."Highly recommended"..."My kinda guy!"..."Couldn't put it down"..."Kick ass!"..."Well-developed characters"..."Very entertaining."

Steen O'Mannon is a newly single forty-two year old man who has developed a recent interest in survivalism. He's an everyday man who gets thrust into survival mode after America falls victim to an EMP attack. As conditions rapidly deteriorate he realizes that his best chance for survival lies beyond the city limits. Clad in body armor and armed with an assault rifle, he grabs his bugout bag and takes to the city streets. As he blazes a trail through the urban jungle, he leaves a pile of bodies in his wake too numerous to count. Along the way he meets a young woman named Rebecca who is in desperate need of help. Together they struggle to survive the mean city streets amidst a catastrophe of cataclysmic proportions.

When Steen and Becca finally break free from the city they encounter a serious survivalist who is more than prepared to survive any crisis. Back at his high-tech compound, they learn the enemy's identity and the U.S. military response. But when the black helicopters come and the compound is invaded by government agents, Steen and Becca discover that people aren't always who they seem to be. Amidst unexpected plot twists and nonstop action, a story unfolds of relationships forged in chaos and lives that are forever changed.

More critical acclaim: "Non-stop action"..."Good writing"..."Would make a great action movie!"..."Well-conceived"..."Homerun!"..."Anything but boring"..."Tight editing"..."Did not disappoint"..."Accurate facts"..."Lots of tips on how to survive in a hostile environment"..."Enjoyed it immensely"..."Compelling."

2.0 out of 5 stars Barely readable December 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The protagonist shoots and dismembers first, asks questions second. Which may seem to be the correct way to survive an apocalypse. But when he meets another "survivalist" somehow that guy is crazy and Steen is not- except that the only difference between the two is how quickly they dismember the competition. This book has zero character development and a repetitive plot that shows little imagination except concerning ways to kill. And even that is kind of gruesome and stupid at the same time.

This genre is a tough one to love because there are so few really great authors that write in it. Most post apocalyptic reads are self-published efforts by authors that have a long way to go in developing their craft. The great reads like "alas babylon" "the stand" and "Lucifers Hammer" ae few and far between. But I do suggest The King of Clayfield, Lights Out and Final Dawn - all excellent reads. However this effort is one to skip

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete and utter garbage. March 3, 2013
By SHTF
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book reads like it was written by a twelve year old boy who has watched to many B-grade action films.
Where do I even begin? The main character is a 42 year old accountant turned Rambo. This guy has no problem killing indiscriminately, whether it's warranted or not. He wall walks around Florida dressed like SWAT in broad daylight and blows away anyone who gets in his way without a second thought. The writer seems to have some issue with young black men because every black guy the main character comes across is one of those so called "gangbanger" types that are dumb enough to challenge a guy dressed in body armor carrying an assault rifle, sometimes with only a knife. It's a whole new kind of stupid, this book.

The killing comes so easy to this character that it becomes laughable. AT one point he decides that he wants to start using his hatchet to kill people in order to save ammo. He starts hacking people apart, chopping limbs off etc. and doesn't bat an eyelid. This doesn't affect him psychologically in any way. He meets a girl along the way who he rescues from being raped. Within a week, the two of them are screwing like rabbits and telling each other they love each other. Sheesh! Withing a couple days, he's got her helping him kill Department of Homeland Security agents like a pro. Hoe the hell does an accountant with no former military training and an owner of a dog grooming business manage to take on trained DHS agents and win? Seriously, this is the level of stupidity laid out in this book. And it just gets worse and worse.

I really like the story line, and hope to read more of Steen O'Mannon.

Well written, well conceived, well thought out.

C'mon Miles, give us more good escapist literature.

Story is about an accountant that travels through a city after a EMP strikes most of the USA. Lots of action and a few good tidbits on what to expect if the electrical grid goes down. Well written and easy to follow I will get the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not realistic but not bad January 11, 2014
Format:Paperback
People are polarized about this book. Go into it knowing this is a fantasy and you'll enjoy it. There's lots of Natural Born Killers action here and little realism. The truth is realism is rather boring and this novel is anything but boring. Based on some reviews I expected to find poor writing and editing, Nope. The editing was tight and the characters had words of wisdom to give the reader as well as shot up and hacked bodies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good August 4, 2013

I enjoyed reading the book. Of course it is one of my favorite themes, EMPs. So easy to imagine things like this can actually happen in the future.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok May 4, 2013

Good fiction, but unrealistic . It could be a light hearted (but graphically bloody) book that you don't have to concentrate very hard on to be able to follow.
