Book Description

May 1, 2000
One of the most overlooked topics in the field of survival medicine is nursing. Doctors or medically trained survivors can patch up a patient after an injury or accident, but it is the survival nurse who provides extended long-term care as well as the dozens of related activities that support the healing process under less-than-ideal conditions. This timely companion to Ragnar Benson's best-selling books on survival medicine tackles the many issues that every serious survival nursing program must face. You will learn the ins and outs of the "big five" considerations of survival nursing; the must-have supplies to keep in stock and how to obtain them; tricks for handling the mountains of laundry generated by a nursing station; how to maintain a low profile with your survival nursing station and why it's important; how to sew up wounds, pull teeth, deliver babies and provide physical therapy under primitive conditions; and more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good info, but covered elsewhere, September 15, 2000

This review is from: Survival Nurse: Running an Emergency Nursing Station Under Adverse Conditions (Paperback)
I've been an avid reader of Ragnar Benson for years, but I must say I'm disappointed in this book. The information is sound and the advice useful, but the book is almost a ver batim reprint of Ragnar's Urban Survival, with actually very little devotion to medicine. Even a casual glance will reveal the striking similarities between the two. As the later book provides most all of the information within the Survival Nurse, plus information on defense, barter, etc. it is in my opinion the better buy. Buy it, and supplement your medical library with Ditch Medicine and/or Where There is no Doctor. They have much more medical information.

2.0 out of 5 stars Survival Nurse Ragnar Benson, March 7, 2007

I am an avid reader of Ragnar Benson's books.I found most of his books very practical and useful for emergency situations. Un fortunately, this is not one of those books. I expected the book to be more practical in the sense that plants and other items found in the woods and local environment would be addressed as part of the concepts presented. This book is too impractical for my learning needs. Although this book is not up to par for me, I do recommend that readers explore some of the authors other works.

Received this book today. With my background and training in special operations, I was expecting a much better book then what is presented inside. I am very disappointed with the material content, it is basically a nice review, but it is lacking information throughout the book.

Very, very disappointed.
