About the Author

Myelita Melton, founder of SpeakEasy Communications, remembers the first time she heard a "foreign" language. She knew from that moment what she wanted to do with her life. "Since I was always the kid in class that talked too much," Myelitia says, "I figured it would be a good idea to learn more than one language- that way I could talk to a lot more people!" After high school, she studied in Mexico at the Instituto de Filológica Hispánica and completed both her BA and MA in French and Curriculum Design at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She has studied and speaks five languages: French, Spanish, Italian, German, and English. "Lita’s" unique career includes classroom instruction and challenging corporate experience. She has won several national awards, including a prestigious Rockefeller scholarship. In 1994 she was named to Who’s Who Among Outstanding Americans. Myelita’s corporate experience includes owning a television production firm, working with NBC’s Spanish news division, Canal de Noticias, and Charlotte’s PBS affiliate WTVI. In her spare time, she continues to broadcast with WDAV, a National Public Radio affiliate near Lake Norman in North Carolina where she lives.

In 1997 Myelita started SpeakEasy Communications to offer industry specific Spanish instruction in North Carolina. The company is now the nation’s leader in Spanish training, offering over 30 SpeakEasy Spanish™ programs and publications to companies, associations, and colleges throughout the US.

Lita is also a member of the National Speaker’s Association and the National Council for Continuing Education and Training. Many of her clients say she is the most high-energy, results-oriented speaker they have ever seen. As she travels the country speaking on cultural diversity issues in the workplace and languages, she has truly realized her dream of being able to talk to the world.

More About the Author

Myelita Melton was born in Morganton, NC, and she knew from the first moment she heard a "foreign" language that she would devote her life to learning and teaching them. "All my teachers complained that I talked too much," Myelita said, "so I thought if I could learn several languages, I could talk to a lot more people...without getting in trouble."

Myelita's unique career has covered challenging classroom and corporate experience. She has taught in public schools, operated a TV advertising firm, and worked for NBC's Spanish news division, "Canal de Noticias."

In 1998 Myelita endured two job lay-offs and began incubating an idea for her business "SpeakEasy Spanish." She began offering "survival" Spanish programs to business and industry customers in the Charlotte area. Each program was customized and based on the unique communicative needs of each company. Her idea of "communication without conjugation" led to work with a variety of industries. These successful programs brought speaking engagements across the country, and her customers encouraged her to begin publishing her each-to-use materials.

Myelita continues to work with corporate clients around the country and is a sought-after convention speaker. Through "SpeakEasy Spanish" she has realized her dream of being able to talk to as many people as possible. She lives in the Lake Norman area in NC with her furry family of 3 dogs and 1 cat. She continues to design new material and plans additional books and audio programs in the Survival Spanish (TM) series.

There is a need for such a "tool". No Latin person speaks as slowly as this CD presents the words. The idea is good, but it needs much improvement before it can be really useful for a person in the construction industry.

3.0 out of 5 stars Of course it's slow, August 7, 2006
This review is from: Survival Spanish for Construction (Audio CD)
Just a thought, responding to "skip it". Of course it's presented slowly, nobody can possibly learn a foreign language at the rate it's spoken by native speakers. I wouldn't expect the Spanish-speaking guys on my jobsite to pick up English the way I normally speak. We both slow down for each other, knowing we need time to process the phrases in our heads. Looking forward to getting this CD for our superintendents. I'm tired of translating for them!
