Editorial Reviews

Ten inch vinyl pressing. 2009 mini album from the all girl Swedish trio. Liechtenstein is about to become the band that every indie kid's younger sister wishes she had started. Making a splash on the international Indie Pop scene with two hard-to-find but attention grabbing singles, the Swedish trio will make waves with their unique take on the girl-group Post-Punk sound of early '80s groups like The Au Pairs and Kleenex.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad debut, just a short one, November 24, 2009
I agree with all that Greg says, except I do like the songs and would love to hear more. It's just too bad they didn't pad out the CD's running length with other tracks from the band's few prior singles is all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Forgettable Debut, July 10, 2009
On Liechtenstein's debut album, "Survival Strategies in a Modern World," the Swedish trio seems stuck in a time warp crossed between the era of girl groups and My Bloody Valentine. Their sound is spare and simplistic favoring a lo-fi d.i.y. approach to recording their pop melodies. The delivery of their songs on this brief album (22 minutes) is always breezy and bright as most of their songs demonstrate their hooks in the first couple of seconds.

The album opens with the Ennio Morricone derivative, "All At Once" which is similar to the jangle pop favored by label mates, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. "Postcard" follows offers sunny vocal harmonies and then things on the album go south. The lack of variety on tracks, "Sophistication," "By Staying Here (We Will Disappear Slowly)" and "Wallpaper Stripes" is mind numbing as if the band parlayed all of their affectations in the first two tracks and that was it. This causes the album to become a bit of a cat-napper (because of its brevity) as "Reflections" offers a jarring staccato backbeat to match the vocals. Closer "The End" closes out the woozy proceedings similar to the song "Heavy Drops" by Lights.

While this album isn't much longer than an EP, it just seems rather forgettable. "Survival Strategies in a Modern World" doesn't offer many challenges and seems rather content to be middle of the road.
