5.0 out of 5 stars Survival 101, January 20, 2008
By
BayAreaSav (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Survive the Night (DVD)
An edge of your seat thriller that does not let you go once the ball starts rolling. This excellent made for T.V. movie came out in the early 90's on the USA network. Three white women, a mother and daughter, along with her auntie drive home on Thanksgiving night and run out of gas in the wrong part of town called "Gravesend". A multicultural street gang takes offense to their territory invasion and sparks a deadly game of cat and mouse with tragic consequences. The women have to utilize basic survival skills and creative intelligence to get out of a kill or be killed situation. What makes this movie stand out is it's dark, gritty and realistic approach. The violent action sequences looks like it came from a theatrical release and has a good amount of blood to go with it. The characters are believable and not one dimensional stereotypes. When the main players are introduced and the premise is set, we go along for the ride as if we are there with them. This is a great find and would be forgotten if not for this recent official DVD release. The movie itself is four stars but I'll give it five for the cheap DVD price that definitely makes it worth owning. Makes me wonder if "Judgement Night" with Emilio Estevez which came out in theaters a year later was inspired by this little film. It's a T.V. cult classic in need of a following. They don't make it like this anymore!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can You Survive?, April 8, 2008
This review is from: Survive the Night (DVD)
I agree 100% with the first review from BayAreaSav. I remember seeing this movie on USA when I was in my early teens and have been waiting till this day for it to come out on DVD. I was extatic to find it the other day here on Amazon and purchased it right away. For a t.v. movie of the early 90's it still completely blows me away at how strong the story is. A must see and a must own in my book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Predictable but good to see Stefanie Powers again, October 8, 2008
This review is from: Survive the Night (DVD)
Being a Stefanie Powers fan, I enjoyed this movie. There were predictable bits, of course, but still worth viewing. Stef never seems to get old, does she!
