Book Description

October 1, 1999 Surviving An Irs Tax Audit
Worried about escaping an audit intact? Then you need Surviving an IRS Tax Audit. This Nolo book explains what to say, what to do, even what to wear, so that a visit from the auditor doesn't turn into a disaster. With material pulled directly from IRS training manuals, the book exposes the tricks of the auditor's trade. It provides you with a profile of People Most Likely To Be Audited (small business owners and contractors, step carefully!) and discusses whether or not the IRS can examine your "lifestyle" during an audit, rather than stick to the tax return. The book also suggests three steps to take when an unreasonable auditor goes too far. Nearly 50 percent of all taxpayers will be audited during their lifetime. This book levels the playing field, giving you the information you need to act and speak like a tax pro. (20090101)

Editorial Reviews

Review

Nolo publications are known for their clarity and reader friendliness. This book, despite its heavy topic, is no exception. Daily shows his readers what to expect from an audit, how to prepare for one, and if things don't go as planned, how to appeal. He also explains the rights of taxpayers during an audit (New Orleans Times-Picayune 20090101)

Surviving an IRS Tax Audit explains the process inside and out. (Detroit Free Press )

Surviving an IRS Tax Audit, by Frederick W. Daily, a tax lawyer, is a completely invaluable guide. (Jill Andresky Fraser Inc. Magazine )

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally well-written and comprehensive., June 21, 2009

This review is from: Surviving an IRS Tax Audit (Paperback)
This book is a MUST read for anyone going through an IRS audit, especially if your records aren't good, or your tax returns have issues. The only issue I have with this book is that the author advocates tactics that are aggressive, but sometimes a little bit of honey works better than vinegar when you are dealing with a bloated agency like the IRS. Put if you think that you're in for a fight with the IRS, make sure that you're prepared.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not confusing, July 30, 2010

Bought this book to help a friend with her audit. Received it before the date expected (nice!) and in great shape; no tears, welts, marking, or stains. It's informative and covers more ground than I expected. The english is plain and easy to follow (in layman's terms) without all the legal jargon to impress and confuse. Gives plenty of references and citings. Also, it isn't a "1,2,3 steps" outline, but I have learned much about what to do, as well as what not to do in case of an audit. Still not finished reading.
