Book Description

January 15, 2006
What if you woke up one day and discovered that the life you thought you'd lived was completely false? Sometimes what's real is so horrific you have to forget just to survive. Surviving Babylon is the riveting account of Garson's journey through such a nightmare. It documents her shocking experience with--and struggle to accept--repressed memories of extreme sexual abuse and the devastation it wreaked on her life. Babylon shatters the wall of silence that surrounds incest and sexual trauma. Through sharing her own experience, Lexa Garson offers fellow survivors courage and hope. The book is a haunting testimony of the strength and resiliency of the human spirit. Ultimately, it challenges readers to take their own journeys inward.

Editorial Reviews

Review

...truly an achievement. It is, at times, brutal, but always honest and an inspiration to all survivors of abuse. --Gary Seidler, founding publisher, Health Communications; August 2005

Babylon lends the possibility of hope for healing. It is so compelling readers will be unable to put it down. --Carol Farmer Markson, MSW, LCSW; July 2005

Well-written and powerful...there's nothing else out there like it. This book needs to be read. --Greg LeMond, three-time Tour de France winner, 1989 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year; August 2005

From the Author

This book is about more than just telling my story. When I realized that I had repressed memories from childhood, my world turned upside down; I felt terrified and alone. I consumed the books I could find that related to my situation, but I never found a first-person account of the process--not only of recovering repressed memories, but of the intensive healing process along the way. The thing that inspired me to write was knowing how helpful that would have been for me. I hope that this book will help other survivors--of all kinds--on their journeys toward healing.
