She helps women empower themselves to live their lives with grace, dignity, and calm.

Editorial Reviews

Review

It is not surprising that "Alice May," described as a "successful romantic fiction writer," has chosen to write "Surviving Betrayal" under a pseudonym. The book is gimmicky, offering advice to women whose husbandshave gone astray in a format perfected for those stand-up calendars from which you rip a page every day; and these "meditations" have all the wisdom of Jerry Springer's Final Thought. Perhaps May wishes to protect her family, since, as she writes in the introduction, her husband was "obsessed with affairs and pornography" and compulsively cheated on her.

But May's chief crime is her sniveling solipsism: "Today I will journal," she writes with animosity toward proper English. "I will open my heart on a blank page and learn something about my emotions, my circumstances, my progress." Or maybe it's cryptic mysticism: "Today I will hear the message of hope." Or pathetic resignation: "Today I can weather a humiliating situation without humiliating myself."

Even if such advice strikes you as helpful, no need to buy "Surviving Betrayal"; it doesn't get better than what you just read above. (Beliefnet, Aug. 2000) -- From Beliefnet

5.0 out of 5 stars Surviving Betrayal by Alice May, December 27, 1999

Surviving Betrayal brings hope to the heart of any woman whose husband is addicted to sex, pornography or any other form of sexual betrayal. The author shares her story in the introduction and throughout the meditations. Somehow, in reading about her journey, it becomes clear that betrayal can truly be survived. The meditations not only offer hope, but practical tools for surviving each day, each relapse, each broken promise. I commend the courage of the woman who wrote this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an indispensible tool, January 11, 2006

This review is from: Surviving Betrayal: Hope and Help for Women Whose Partners Have Been Unfaithful * 365 Daily Meditations (Paperback)
This book is a must-have for any woman whose life has been shattered by betrayal. My husband and I prided ourselves on our continued love and lust after 25 years of marriage; you can imagine how devastated I was to learn that he was involved in an affair. May's book of meditations is somewhat like 12-step program literature--it puts the wounded partner's focus back on herself to promote healing. It will validate all the irrational, sick thoughts that betrayal causes, and provide some comfort that this too shall pass. Although we are working to repair our marriage, I still read this book everyday, because it could be tomorrow that it happens again; what I will see is that I cannot control what anyone else does, just that it's not my fault that someone else is soul sick. Do not be put off by the mention of "God;" just as in 12 step programs, this could be anything that provides you strength: Al-Anon meetings (go to them--they are a lifesaver), religion, or even the sunrise. I found this book indispensible. When my copy gets old, I hope to get another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars some peace during the chaos, May 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Surviving Betrayal: Hope and Help for Women Whose Partners Have Been Unfaithful * 365 Daily Meditations (Paperback)
The aim of this book is not to solve your partner's betrayal but to validate and offer solace for those caught in it's web. It's a comfort book and I highly recommend it -especially during the early, crazy days when your life is spinning out of control and your mind is on overdrive. I carried it around with me and whenever I had a meltdown, I found reassurance that my new, unfamiliar (terrifying) emotions and thoughts were normal. I found the meditations calming and surely, this author has been there, done that. This book does not dispense advice but correctly places the focus on the betrayed's healing.
