pretty good basic daily meditation guide. Some things too broad and don't apply to me directly but overall a good start to the day.

Surviving Betrayal brings hope to the heart of any woman whose husband is addicted to sex, pornography or any other form of sexual betrayal. The author shares her story in the introduction and throughout the meditations. Somehow, in reading about her journey, it becomes clear that betrayal can truly be survived. The meditations not only offer hope, but practical tools for surviving each day, each relapse, each broken promise. I commend the courage of the woman who wrote this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an indispensible tool, January 11, 2006

This review is from: Surviving Betrayal: Hope and Help for Women Whose Partners Have Been Unfaithful * 365 Daily Meditations (Paperback)
This book is a must-have for any woman whose life has been shattered by betrayal. My husband and I prided ourselves on our continued love and lust after 25 years of marriage; you can imagine how devastated I was to learn that he was involved in an affair. May's book of meditations is somewhat like 12-step program literature--it puts the wounded partner's focus back on herself to promote healing. It will validate all the irrational, sick thoughts that betrayal causes, and provide some comfort that this too shall pass. Although we are working to repair our marriage, I still read this book everyday, because it could be tomorrow that it happens again; what I will see is that I cannot control what anyone else does, just that it's not my fault that someone else is soul sick. Do not be put off by the mention of "God;" just as in 12 step programs, this could be anything that provides you strength: Al-Anon meetings (go to them--they are a lifesaver), religion, or even the sunrise. I found this book indispensible. When my copy gets old, I hope to get another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars some peace during the chaos, May 29, 2002

This review is from: Surviving Betrayal: Hope and Help for Women Whose Partners Have Been Unfaithful * 365 Daily Meditations (Paperback)
The aim of this book is not to solve your partner's betrayal but to validate and offer solace for those caught in it's web. It's a comfort book and I highly recommend it -especially during the early, crazy days when your life is spinning out of control and your mind is on overdrive. I carried it around with me and whenever I had a meltdown, I found reassurance that my new, unfamiliar (terrifying) emotions and thoughts were normal. I found the meditations calming and surely, this author has been there, done that. This book does not dispense advice but correctly places the focus on the betrayed's healing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, November 13, 2003

I would not have made it without this book. After 23 years of marriage, the revelation of infidelity almost killed me. No matter what I was feeling or thinking on any given day, I could find hope that I would make it. I did. And this book has been my "bible".

This is one of the truly empowering books to go through when you have been completely sidelined by revalations of unfaithfulness by your partner. It is not a book to "read" through page by page but more of a book to just open up to a page and read the message. I found it immensely reassuring of my own worth and existance and have recommended it to several other people over the years. It is too bad it is out of print apparently since I had to reorder another copy from one of the used book sellers because I gave my copy to a friend in need. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of this book to keep in your library!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for renewing hope in yourself after betrayal, September 27, 2009

This review is from: Surviving Betrayal: Hope and Help for Women Whose Partners Have Been Unfaithful * 365 Daily Meditations (Paperback)
This book was well written by women who have shared the trauma of betrayal. The words bring comfort and clarification for some of the emotions that follow being involved with a sex addict. It's comforting to know others have gone through the same stages and that we aren't imagining it (we are not insane). Sorrow, anger, confusion and[[ASIN:1576830284 False Intimacy: Understanding the Struggle of Sexual Addiction] guilt can be overwhelming and its okay to feel this way. Most importantly there is hope and help in understanding we can move on and by helping ourselves we can help others. Unfortunately in sexual addiction most of the focus is on the addict not the partner who is also suffering and confused, this book was very enlightening, I hope there is more to follow.

I have to disagree with the previous ratings, I didn't find this book that helpful. "Alice May" advocates that one is able to get through and heal from adultery without the help of God and it's only been by God's grace and provision that I am making it through. Also, her suggestions are pretty short and limited. She basically tells you where to go but gives little direction as to how to get there. I would suggest going with a Christian author who focuses on God and His healing grace and not on our own abilitys. God bless all who are going through this I know it's a very trying time!

5.0 out of 5 stars widow of love, February 28, 2001
By

This review is from: Surviving Betrayal: Hope and Help for Women Whose Partners Have Been Unfaithful * 365 Daily Meditations (Paperback)
I am 25 years old. I've been married to my husband for two and a half years only, but we've been best friends for 11 years now. Just recently, I discovered that my husband is having an affair with a married woman- a friend from college. Upon learning, I have endured a succession of emotional blows from my husband. My husband was my guardian angel but now he's the catastrophe who ruined my life and stripped me off of my self respect and dignity. I was appalled by my husband's reaction when I caught his affair. He had so much pride that he did not apologize. He wanted to protect his concubine that he sent me away infront of her and made her stay instead. He had so much hatred for me that his words insulted me and wounded me more. He had a very deep emotional attachement to her that he had written her that she was more important, he love her more and he would prove that because he would leave me for her. I could not comprehend how he could have betrayed me and wounded me so badly in spite of the years we've been together. I have been his partner, best friend, sister and wife, so was he to me. Now it all shattered. When I read Alice May's Surviving Betrayal, I got all the assurance that I needed... that the affair was never my fault. I got affirmations regarding my emotions. I discovered that, though I have lost myself in placing my husband above everything else in my life, I could still pick up the shattered pieces in my life with courage and with faith in God. It is not an easy task. I think I will forever be trapped in the process of healing, but with the guidance of the Lord, the support of my loving mother and faith in my husband that he would change, I will survive. In God's time I will heal. Though my husband has not shown any signs of concrete repentance and remorse for what he did, I am not angry with him. With his betrayal I learned that there's nothing my husband could do that could make me love him less; not even if it is at the expense of loosing myself.
