5.0 out of 5 stars Good basic overview of e-commerce
I read the other reviews and it seems to me that the techies find the book too basic and the non-technical execs find it very helpful. I'm in the latter group, so I found it the best thing I've read on just what e-commerce really is and how companies are actually using the technology. It was right on my level which I consider to be intermediate.

Mr. Shaw's book misses the mark on the issues facing companies with E-Commerce. His book lacks the depth and incite that either a novice or experienced e-commerce reader needs. For those of us who know nothing about ecommerce but know we need to learn, this is just the book to read first. It's in plain english - no technical jargon.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book should be required reading for every executive., September 23, 1999

This small book clarified the entire complicated concept of e-commerce and e-business for me! I really am amazed at how it has changed the way I look at the fundamentals of my own business. I highly recommend the book. Jack Shaw knows his subject matter and puts it in non-technical language that is easy to understand.

Mr. Shaw's book misses the mark on the issues facing companies with E-Commerce. His book lacks the depth and incite that either a novice or experienced e-commerce reader needs. Mr. Shaw addresses E-Commerce from an EDI perspective and does not provide the vision that companies need to address the technical and process issues surrounding e-commerce. He uses examples of companies that have been disected effectively by most e-commerce books and periodicals 2 years ago. He provides no additional value to these examples. The book is overpriced, lacks content - don't waste your money or time!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Just what the eDoctor Ordered, December 1, 1999

This review is from: Surviving the Digital Jungle: What Every Executive Needs to Know About eCommerce and eBusiness (Revised) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am no "techie" and needed to become aware of all that ecommerce has to offer this day and age. As ecommerce becomes more and more a part of our every day life (we are not a paper less society yet), I found it necessary for my own personal satisfaction, not to mention my career, to get up to speed on what all of this ecommerce and .com talk really meant. I received Jack Shaw's book and within a few hours after reading it, I felt confident that I could attend a company meeting and not only be aware of and discuss ecommerce issues but also, lend new insight into initiatives that even the computer heads may not have come up with. This was very good, succinct yet comprehensive reading. If you need to learn about ecommerce, then read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great introduction to e-commerce!, November 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Surviving the Digital Jungle: What Every Executive Needs to Know About eCommerce and eBusiness (Revised) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the whole e-commerce revolution. It was easy to read and covered all the topics in easily understandable language, no techie talk. I was able to read it in one plane flight as the author promised! I particularly liked the author's ability to give concise descriptions of the e-commerce technologies now being used, along with excellent examples of how leading edge companies are using them to excel.

5.0 out of 5 stars First rate book. Plain talk about a complex topic, October 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Surviving the Digital Jungle: What Every Executive Needs to Know About eCommerce and eBusiness (Revised) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jack Shaw has clearly and concisely explained a topic that everybody is talking about, but few really understand. I found the book easy to read and the illustrations very much on point. The most impactful part was about how some of the cutting-edge companies are using the internet to increase their profits while, at the same time, cutting cost and speeding up production - in real life, not hypothetically. Mr. Shaw says this book is a 90 minute read. Maybe the first time, but I'm reading it again for the 3rd time and am getting new info with every reading.

The canopy of the e-commerce Digital Jungle is uncovered by Shaw in his pragmatic guide exploring the drivers and dynamics surrounding this major digital economy business transformation. This book provides a refreshing perspective demonstrating the importance of a well-defined strategy while presenting technology as the role of the enabler. This is a quick read primer that succinctly tells it like it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good overview of what e-commerce is all about., February 19, 2000

This review is from: Surviving the Digital Jungle: What Every Executive Needs to Know About eCommerce and eBusiness (Revised) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought several copies of this book for my salespeople to give our customers. Most of our customers are not very up to date on e-commerce. Several of them have called me to say the book gave them a good, quick lesson on what it was all about. Not too technical and very interesting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Alright, overall; very shallow, December 8, 1999
This review is from: Surviving the Digital Jungle: What Every Executive Needs to Know About eCommerce and eBusiness (Revised) (Mass Market Paperback)
Read it, but only if you don't have high expectations from the start. If you know absolutely nothing about ecommerce then use it to ward off sleep during a plane flight, no more. It's the bare minimum anyone would like to know about the topic. Mr. Shaw tells one this, so no false expectations are aroused. And yes, that loose leaf correcting page 13 is a tad bit unprofessional. Graphs and tables are very unpolished.
