3.0 out of 5 stars An inspiring introduction to finance
Ron Blue and Jeremy White, CPA have brought forth a timely book, "Surviving Financial Meltdown". My husband grabbed this title as soon as it appeared in our mailbox!

Although this is a helpful non-fiction read for the novice, my hubby and I have read so many books on finance (and we've been blessed by God to have survived my 13-month season of unemployment...

5.0 out of 5 stars Encouraging Financial Hope, February 9, 2009
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
This small book is user-friendly and filled with beneficialinformation. It is set up so you can keep referring to the parts most useful to you over and over again. This book left me with so many practical tips and it was easy to understand, which gives me hope in these uncertain times.

This book is 127 pages of very practical, encouraging and helpful tips on how to weather the financial storms of life, no matter what they maybe. Jesus said, "In this life you will have trouble". He did promise to be with us in the storm. We have a choice to believe that and seek His comfort or go it alone. Our attitude will affect how we go through any storm. We choose our attitude, approach and response to these storms. It will affect the outcome. I loved how they explained this in the book.

If we buy into the fear the media feeds us, we can overreact to any situation. Ron Blue says "You don't have to react to your changing financial climate. You can thrive during economic uncertainty. How we respond to unexpected events of life will directly and indirectly affect our personal finances." And everything else in our life, for that matter.

Ron Blue and Jeremy White, CPA, agree it's not easy, but being constant and disciplined to meet your goals, will pay off huge in the long run.

This book was easy to read and I found the instructional help I needed. I loved the 'Information' boxes used throughout this book. These boxes made it easy to go back to facts as I needed them to generate new financial habits.

Some of the Topics are:

4 Things to do if you've heard your bank may fail
6 incredible promises from God to Remember in tough times
7 Websites to visit for helpful personal finance resources
8 Things not to skimp on during tough economic times
5 Places to find Extra Cash to Build your emergency fund

(Several more boxes are through out the book - very useful and encouraging)

There is a large chapter on investments and investing. It shows you how to deal with the situation you have and what to do with investments in the future.

There's a great chapter at the end of the book on 40 money-saving tips that you'll be referring to often. There are great money tips that are easy to apply to your life and save right away. I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged by this book and you will be too. There is
something for everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy, thought-filled help for today's economic times, February 6, 2009
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
Ron Blue and Jeremy White have written THE book for today's economic times! With the job market getting worse day by day, the stock market on a yo-yo string and a stimilus package that no one is certain about, we need hands on, easy to apply help.

There's no such thing. It took time to get into this financial quagmire--it will take time to get out.

BUT, there IS hope, and it's found in the pages of Scripture and in the pages of "Surviving Financial Meltdown". Within the first few pages, Ron and Jeremy sum up the main points of the book's four financial principles.

They make TOTAL sense!

Throughout the rest of the book, the two authors go into more detail with each principle, sharing personal stories, anecdotes, and lots and lots of Scripture.

Sidebars and inserted boxes of helpful advice and websites are scattered throughout the book, some addressing layoffs, some for financial counseling and some on how to save your home.

In such a bleak financial time, "Surviving Financial Meltdown" may be the most encouraging book you read--IF you apply what the authors advise. And that is truly the keep to surviving this financial meltdown we are in. I highly recommmend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm Melting, I'm Melting, March 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
Like the Wicked Witch of the West, there is something bad in our land that needs to be vanquished - the fear that this is the end and there is nothing we can do about turning it around. This book is a practical look at how serious our current economy is, and what each of us can do to prepare for ongoing instability in the US and Worldwide economy. This isn't the worst it's been since the Great Depression (read to see why) but even if it gets that bad, there are things you and I can do to minimize the impact on our finances. Blue and White lay it out well in this quick read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Time-Proven Financial Guidance For Any Income Level, March 1, 2009
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
If you are worried about the current state of the economy or find yourself in an unmanageable debt situation (or simply want to know how to begin putting your financial house in order), this book is for you. Jeremy White and Ron Blue are not selling you a quick fix for your current state of affairs and they have not discovered the latest money making fads or trends. Most of the time-proven principles they present in this book have been known for thousands of years - they just haven't been followed by the vast majority of people.

The authors do a great job of presenting these principles in a straightforward and easy to ready style. With many real world examples, they clearly demonstrate how anyone can plot a path forward to financial stability as well as financial peace of mind (regardless of income level). The material covered in the book is best summarized by two quotes on the book's back cover, " They'll show you how to take charge of your family's financial well-being - no matter how bleak your situation appears right now" and, "Learn why you don't need to fear tough economic times - and why there may be no better time than now to take control of your family's financial well-being."

I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timely and Timeless, February 17, 2009
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
Trusted financial advisors and best-selling authors Ron Blue and Jeremy White have penned the perfect book for this difficult time. Actually, the direct, concise guidance that they provide here is applicable for any time, but it's particularly needed during these days of economic turmoil.

It's an engaging read (especially for a financial book!) as there are lots of stories, illustrations, and even humor that illustrate the authors' points. This combined with its relatively short length means that it's a fairly quick - but memorable - read.

Additionally, the straight-talking style of the authors is practical, encouraging, and biblical. It's not just a hit list of today's hottest tips and tools. Nor is it just a help for folks that have a large emergency fund already - there's stuff to use and apply for whatever situation you're in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid financial principles in a shaky economic climate, February 21, 2009
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
Surviving Financial Meltdown by Ron Blue & Jeremy White is a terrific, concise guide to getting your finances in order for life. Could there be a more timely book in the current economic climate? The authors have years of accrued knowledge about how to be better off financially for life, and they share that wisdom in a straight forward, easy to understand manner. It's not about making more money, it's about spending less than you make. Their advice seems almost too simple, but the principles are solid. They take the reader through exercises on establishing written goals and determining priorities and from there to creating a workable budget (although they try not to use that dreaded term). Blue has testified before Congress about these tried and true methods, and it's not just the average family that could benefit from applying them, but the country as well. Other financial books I've read make the process of becoming financially solvent sound difficult or like it's all about investing wisely, but this book's ideas are simple and seem like it would be easy to follow; I'm certainly going to try! I really appreciated how the authors wove in Scripture throughout the book to enforce the principles or giving and saving as opposed to hoarding or spending frivolously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money management made clear, February 19, 2009
By
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
Financial how-to books can be very daunting and confusing. This one wasn't. It is written for the average person with clear ideas and biblical references. Everyone knows especially in this current financial climate that they "should be" saving, spending wisely, investing, and just generally being very careful with their money. BUT, ah the big but, most people find it intimidating so they don't do it, they ignore the advice. I think that this book will help bring the big intimidating monster down to a manageable size and make money management a "can do" rather than a "can't do". I liked principle that they used in the chapter "40 Money Saving Tips" that it's wiser to save already taxed dollars then to work a second job and have to pay the taxes on that money too before it can be used. There is also a some work pages with questions that help to establish your real goals, dreams, and what you are actually willing to do to work towards them. The visual examples of how money and budgeting works are also simple and easy for anyone to grasp. For instance in Chapter 6 instead of listing all the imaginable places to spend money they categorize everything into 5 main uses: Giving, Taxes, Saving/investing, short-term debt repayment, lifestyle choices. How easy is that! If you are going to spend some money it will obviously fall into one of the categories no matter what the reason is.

This is a good book about money management and how to survive the currant as well as the future economic turndowns. If you start now, this one will be survivable and the next one won't hit you as hard because of course, there will be a next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Timing, February 17, 2009
This review is from: Surviving Financial Meltdown: Confident Decisions in an Uncertain World (Paperback)
"Surviving Financial Meltdown" should be in the hands of everyone right now. With the state of the economy the way it is, this book could help many pull themselves back up by their bootstraps.

The rising costs of every day living is pounding on those who are already struggling to make ends meet. Many live paycheck to paycheck. It didn't happen overnight that they got that way and it's not going to do a 360 overnight either. It's going take some work on your part but the good thing is... the authors of this book give you the "know how" on how to acheive your financial goals.

Maybe someone should slip a copy of this book to all the politicians in this country too.
