Despite Amazon associating this book with "Heart Shaped Box" because the authors have the same name, they are not the same author. See joehillfiction dot com for a bibliography.

I am not rating this book of poetry, which I have not read.

Avoid this if you are looking to buy books written by the Joe Hill that wrote Heart Shaped Box or 20th Century Ghosts. This is a book of poetry. And, unfortunately, it's pretty poor poetry; quite juvenile in it's nature. Steer clear.

This book of so called poems is real garbage--it is nothing but hate , anger, constant talk of death, etc. This guy is severely disturbed--I sent the book back to Amazon. I ordered it thinking that it would be along the lines of Heart Shaped Box. Is this even the same author?

Guess I didn't realize this is a book of poems - so I was disappointed. I guess if you are into poetry you would enjoy it. Not sure what type of poetry though - urban poetry?

This book is not by THE Joe Hill.

I gave it a chance anyways, but it was poorly written.

if i could have given it no stars, i would have, and i consider myself well-read (if not well-typed).
i still can't figure out if this is the same joe hill that wrote "heart shaped box" or "20th century ghosts", and is the son of stephen king. there is no publisher's info in the book to confirm that it is, and the "poetry" is depressing, poorly written pap.
i'm seldom moved to write a review, but i have to say, i actually round-filed this book, which i NEVER do.
"20th century ghosts", on the other hand, if it was written by the same joe hill, i found AMAZING, a book worthy of being the base of college literary classes. i don't even have the words to describe it.

I purchased this book because I loved Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. I was hoping this book was in the same genre but I was very disappointed. It was depressing and while well written, it was not what I expected it to be.

Having read the "Heart-Shaped Box" first, I was expecting more of the same. I was really disappointed with "Surviving". This publication is one of Joe Hill's first and it's bad essay/poetry at best. The "Heart-Shaped Box", on the other hand, was excellent. I am certainly not going to order "20th Century Ghosts" until I read some reviews on it first.
