5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK!!
Rarely do I ever review a book that I've read, but I had to review this one and give it 5 stars. It was an excellent read. It was funny and I could not put it down. Poor Torey needed to be loved so badly but the brother had to be fine or she was'nt having it! I know people just like her, that is why I could relate. Mr. Moon McAllister was so real that I fell in love...

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent fiction at last!, May 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Surviving Mr. Right (Sepia) (Paperback)
Surviving Mr. Right is a captivating novel, filled with great plot twists and characters and the kind of heroine I could really relate to. Tory was looking for love in all the wrong places until Moon McCalister came along. I loved the Moon character. He was strong and decent. But I really loved Tory. She was a sister in need of a lot of help, but in the end she found her own voice and was able to see a good life even without a man in it. The ending was perfect! The dialogue was crisp! This is one book that everybody should read. It is intelligent, thought provoking, and extremely well written. Teresa McClain-Watson is the writer of the future. I had never heard of her before, but I hope she keeps them coming!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Book, August 25, 2003

This review is from: Surviving Mr. Right (Sepia) (Paperback)
I read this book several months ago, and it held my interest until the very end. It had that love story, happily ever after feel to it, but the hell she went through to get to 'Mr Right' was somewhat realistic. The part where Daniel asks, 'Are you Ready?' was hilarious, and that alone was enough for me to keep reading to see what would happen. This book was pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars The "so not true" guy is so not true!, September 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Surviving Mr. Right (Sepia) (Paperback)
What did he base his review on? He didn't talk about anything but the fact that women wouldn't try to win a man by any means necessary. Surviving Mr. Right was so much more than that to me. It was a testiment to learning that wanting something so badly is not the way to go. I loved the book. I thought Tory was just like me in a lot of ways. She hated that she wanted a man so badly, but she couldn't help herself. In the end she learned that loving herself was more important than being loved by someone else. And her love affair with Moon McCalister was excellent and was the real spice of the book. So Not True didn't even mention Moon McCalister! I loved this book and i've recommended it to all my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A school teacher sold on Mr. Right, May 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Surviving Mr. Right (Sepia) (Paperback)
I am a school teacher in California who appreciates good writing and plot development. Surviving Mr. Right contains both. The care with which the author takes with each character, building an exciting style in each and then creating scenes to demonstrate that style. I thought the main characters, Tory and Derrick "MOON" McCalister, were very on point. I can't wait to see the sequel. Surely it is worthy of one. It has my full endorsement.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY GOODNESS......., May 18, 2002

this book put me in a good mood. how could this book not make anyone smile. The book is about victory who is a 34 year old college professor that seems to have the worst luck when it comes to men. She belives that she is getting too old and she wants to settle down with mr. right. her best friend decides to move away to Flordia to help her husband with their funeral home business. victoria decided that she wants to move to Flordia also because it will give her a chance to have a new beginning. I'm suggesting that you all go out and pick up this book so that you can laugh at all of the weird and mysterious men that she comes across and also laugh at her inner thoughts. I promise that you will be saying "uh-uh" and "no he didn't" right along with her.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it but...., April 16, 2002
This review is from: Surviving Mr. Right (Sepia) (Paperback)
I am so glad that we have so many African American writers out there literally bumping into one another that Lord knows we will probably never be tired of them. but, another I met a man and all story??? I know love makes the world go around, but in reality, how many of us aregetting it? Now, I loved Victoria. She really handled herself well. When ol' boy was butt' naked on the coach and no one gave him the invitation to do so. Chile, I liked to laugh my butt off. But, he just went too darn far. Moon was good, but I liked to kick Tory's butt when Amanda came in there threatening Moon's life and She just went away and didn't sit down and tell him the deal. Shoot, she should have gotten more assertive then. I liked Gina and Vera, though it had me wondering if having a man in your life is worth all of that. You had one messing with a white woman, who he claims is his coworker when he is caught red-handed. then, you got another who is an undertaker, and refuses to let his wife go to work, and trying to stifle her individuality. It makes you wonder if having a man in your life is worth the hassle. With the exception of Karen Q. Miller's "Satin Doll", where I see where the woman ends up alone and liking it,why do we always have to end up with a brother? What message are we putting out in our books? Perhaps, we need another kind of book.

5.0 out of 5 stars desperation at it's funniest, January 24, 2010
This is one of my favorite books, I've read it at least 3 times.
Torey is such an identifiable and loveable charachter. You just can't help but to cheer her on, in her pursuit of happiness and love.

I loved the way the writer was able to give you a look into the lives of Torey's friends as well It's the perfect Urban Cinderella story to me.

You'll find yourself laughing out loud with the turn of each page.
Especially with the antics of some of Torey's dates.
This story is so realistic! From the storyline, the characther's lives and all of their individual issues, the tale is excelletntly woven to keep your full attention.

I give this book an A+!

It's well-written and I look forward to reading any other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this Book, November 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is my second time reading this book and I believe it gets better each time. Tory is trying to find the hapily ever after and searching in all the wrong places. Until she meets the Moon and then there is no comparision. The characters were well thought out and having lived near Tallahassee find myself thinking are some of these characters real people. But this was truly a good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, funny, and still funnier!, February 14, 2007
This book was just ridiculously funny! This was the first book I'd read by the author and she immediately had me hooked! Tory and her friends are a riot but that Tory, (desperate, shameless thang)was a gas! LOL. The message was clear: that much desperation ain't pretty on nobody! But it was fun taking the ride with Tory. I'm glad she finally got the message and wised up. Moon was cool and refreshing and the kind of man she needed. I would've kicked Miss Thang's behind-talking about the coon schools. This was just a completely funny, relaxing read that would be perfect on the beach. You'll laugh out loud.
